In search of Dudley Curl (wife Penelope Williams) known to have been in
Monroe County, 1818 (Grand Juror-Monroe Cty; 1823, leased son John's
farm;census 1820).
No other appearance of Dudley after 1823...yet Penelope re-appears 1829 in
Carroll County, MO....alone! Dudley did not appear in Monroe Cty. census
1830.
Probable that he died in Monroe or some other county in IN.
Unable find any record, cemetery or otherwise after 1823.
There were CURL family members in Elkhart, Perry, Clark and Montgomery
counties briefly and probably in neighboring counties.
PERSI produced nothing thru Allen County Public Lib.
Can anyone help.

Here is something about a soldier who died in his Company A, 10th Ind Vol Regt
http://members.xoom.com/elagabalus/tenth.html This was listed under the
"Bivouac of the Dead" on the above site.
Will the circle be unbroken...Descendants of Private Thomas Zwyers
(1842-1893) gathered around his marker, at McIntyre Cemetery near Kirklin,
Clinton County, Indiana on 23 May 1999. Thomas enlisted in Captain James H.
Hamilton's Company A (Boone County) in August 1861 and was mustered in, along
with the rest of the Tenth Indiana, on 18 September 1861. Thomas served with
the Tenth until his transfer to the Veteran Reserve Corps on 6 April 1864 due
to recurring medical problems. With the end of the war Thomas, like many of
his comrades, returned home to farm but regularly attended regimental and GAR
reunions to reminisce about "the late unpleasantness."

source and some civilian information. So I am desisting.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me. The thing that I need to know now is what his wife's name was. My James H. Hamilton's wife's name was Hannah, & they had a child named Isaac N. Hamilton b. abt. 1833 in Indiana. Is there anyone out there that can help me with my family? Thank you, Dena

In the book "Boone Co., Indiana History" published 1984, page 418, a
biographical sketch of the Norman & Thelma Sloan family, makes mention of the
following: "...his second great grandfather, William Slone/Sloan, came from
Clermont Co., Ohio to Marion Co., IN in the 1830's. And his third great
grandfather, George Slone/Sloan, came from Pennsylvania to Ohio in 1817."
Elsewhere it states: "Norman's great grandfather, Marquis De LaFayette Sloan,
came to Boone County from Marion Co., IN in 1890...Norman Wayne Sloan was
born in Center Township, Boone Co., IN on February 22, 920.....His son,
William Lee, born April 27, 1944...actively works with family genealogy".
Hello...
Thank you so much for this information! It seems to confirm my sketchy info
that has the Sloans in Marion County IN for several years before some them
went into Boone County, IN. I will certainly persue that diligently.
Thanks again for your help.

Hello..I am new to this list and am seeking information on the following:
William P Sloan 1842-1915 had four wives.
Supposedly he and one wife were divorced, but it is not known whether it was
first or second wife.
He had a son, Thomas Sloan with one of his wives, but not known which one,
and nothing can be found on said Thomas Sloan in Boone County records.
The names and children are known with certainty on his other two wives.
Wife #1 probably Elizabeth SWIFT marr. 1864 in Boone County, IN Divorced?
Children?
Wife # 2 Louisa BURROUGHS - marr 1870 in Boone County. She died before
1888? Divorced? Children?
Wife # 3 Rachel A JACKSON - marr 1888 in Boone County. One known child:
Nancy Ann "Anna" - Rachel died 1895.
Wife #4 Margaret CALDWELL - marr 1898 in Boone County. One known child:
Ruth Sloan (perhaps Grace Ruth Sloan) - 1926.
At this point, most of my information is on Rachel Jackson as I am descended
from Wm Sloan and Rachel Jackson through their daughter, Nancy Ann, and
would be happy to share information and pictures of some of the Jackson
family.
I know very little about William P Sloan.
Needless to say, any help appreciated.
Sincerely Virginia
Dear List:
I also received this email this a.m. which casts doubt on the message I
just sent *FYI - Recovered Military Records.* I'm sorry if I passed on
something that was not true.

This legend has been circulating for a number of years. I do not
know how to prove definitively the truth of this story, but the
December 2000 issue of what I believe to be the newsletter of the
Illinois state headquarters of the American Legion carried the
following story:
----------------------
LOST MILITARY RECORDS QUESTIONED
It was recently reported in a veterans publication that the
Veterans Administration reported discovering 10 million
duplicates of the 20th Century Military Records. These
records were thought to have been destroyed in a fire. They
were told to call the Veterans' Personnel Records, GSA, St.
Louis, MO
Phone contact was made by this office and was informed that
this WAS NOT TRUE and they knew nothing of this nature.
We will continue to monitor this situation.

"The Veterans Administration has reported discovering 10 million
duplicates of 20th Century Military Records. These records were thought
to have been destroyed in a 1973 fire which wiped out most Army records
from 1912 to 1960 and most Air Force records from 1947 to 1964. If you
need records that you were told were burned, you may contact: Veterans

possible the families could have been traveling together.
