Dear Marlena,
I am sending a copy of this message to the Boone County list. Hope you
don't mind.
I am sorry but I did not find anyone with the surname Lewis or Dent in
the index of my Boone County book. However, the name Martin Lewis
sounds vaguely familiar to me (maybe I'm thinking of Martin *and* Lewis
:-)
Good luck in your search and happy holidays.

Dear Susan,
Thank you for your message and all the information you included. I am
forwarding it to the Boone County mailing list along with my reply. I
think it is best that we share our correspondence with all of our Boone
County Cousins.
I am sorry to say that my Boone County book does not contain an
"everyname index" of it's entire contents. It has an index of the
biographies contained therein; a list of everyone who corresponded with
the author and contributed to his work; and a "Soldier List" containing
the names of men from Boone County who served in the military before
1887. Unfortunately, there are no Whites in the index.
To all members of the Boone County mailing list:
I just joined this list tonight and have already received multiple
replies to my initial query. That is good. However, I think it is very
important for each of you to know that I am *not* an expert in Boone
County research and that my only interest in this county at the present
time is with my DAVENPORT and SEELEY ancestors. I happen to have a copy
of a book dealing with Boone County history. I hope that I have not
opened up a "Pandora's Box" with my offer to do lookups. I do not have
the time, energy, or desire to scan the entire book looking for specific
surnames other than my own (not that anybody has asked me to do so).
However, I am willing to look in the "index" (such as it is) and share
any information I find for the surnames you seek. If you would like to
read the book yourself, I will be happy to give you all the information
you need to order it at your library.
I hope that I have not offended anyone with my comments my first day
here (I'm a little paranoid :-) If so, I apologize.

Coleen,
Howdy to you too! Thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure how to describe the contents of the book so I will quote
from the title page:
"Giving an Account of the Early Settlement of Each Locality; Church
Histories; County and Township Officers from the First down to 1886;
Histories of some of the Pioneer Families of the County."
"Biographical Sketches of some of the prominent men and women."
"Communications from well-informed citizens throughout the county; List
of soldiers who went to the late war of 1861-5"
The book contains 498 pages, including the index. Is there anything in
particular that you are looking for (besides why so many people moved to
Boone Co. in the 1840s)?
Warm regards,
Nevada Jack

surnames DAVENPORT and/or SEELEY in Boone County. I will be

Robert b. 1849 no other information
Elihu and Elinor died 1862, his son-in-law, Jacob L., Brown handles what estate there was.
We have been stuck on going further back on Elihu until I saw something on the Internet about a Gideon Brown in parathesis (Guyan). This Gideon Leeper (Guyan) Brown was the son of Felix Brown and Jane Leeper. People researching this line say that she was the daugther of Gawain Leeper. I recently found where I believe this information came from. anyhow. This Gideon (Guyan) Brown is who I suspect signed Elihu marriage bond in Knox Co., In 1822. Through will and land records, census it has been extablished the following
William Brown b.? died bc 1806 Knox Co. the following children were mentioned in will
wife Martha (believed to be Martha Basset)
Thomas
Alexander
William
Robert
Felix ** of which a lot is known b. 1760 to 1770
John b. 1770 lived in Knox Co., in 1806, later moved to Roane Co. Tenn had son William
Rebecca maried James Harrelson lived in area 1800 to 1810 at least
Mary married Hugh Fulton d. about 1830 married to Hugh Fulton Sr.
Agnes married Thomas Fulton lived in area about 1800-1810
William Brown senior received land from North Carolina in 1792. land was located at the mouth of Lyons Creek and Holsten River. farm was located near to the county line of Jefferson. Some of his neighbors Samuel Samples attended Church at Strawberry Plains, his daughter, Mary Brown Fulton is buried in the Cem there at Strawberry Plains.
Somewhere between 1820 and 1830 Felix Brown, son of William Brown and most of his family except for Gideon Leeper Brown (guyan) move to Campbell Co. Census of 1830 and land transaction. I believe that Gideon L. Brown Thomas Andrew Brown stayed in Jefferson, Strawberry Plains because they both married people there after 1830. Felix Jr. stayed near the farm in Knox until about 1850. Felix Senior plus Thomas, and Gideon Leeper Brown move to Mo. c 1840.later settling in Platte Co. Mo 1850
in 1802 a Issac Brown married a Francis Clark in Grainger Co.,Tenn. By 1830 This Isaac is in Putnam Co. Indiana.by 1830. Marriage bond signed by a William Brown. In 1830 Putnam Co., Ind Isaac and a robert C. Brown both born in Va are listed on the Census, not far from a William Brown over 70 (perhaps this is William Brown Jr., son of William Brown Sr. that died in Knox Co. in 1807. Elihu Brown is listed on next page. The Isaac Brown and some of his family move to Platte Co. Mo in 1840. Listed next to the William Brown over 70 is a Francis Brown 50 or older.
would love to try and connect these families. Any information is appreciated.
BTW in 1830 Jefferson Co., Tenn census are listed two Claiborne Browns. Since this name is used in Elihu's Family and in Felix's family would like to find out anything about these Claiborne Brown. A George Brown signed the first Marriage Bond on the Claiborne Brown in Jefferson Co. A ---- Harmon signed the last one.

can do requests by email.
Do you know you can write to the National Archives and get his complete

Nancy,
With the information from Rebecca on his unit, you should be able to get his
military records from the National Archives, if you have not already tried
that. If he had descendants, there may be later pension records, also.

Nancy (and other parties interested in Civil War records),
In case you haven't seen this before, an excellent source for learning
about searching Civil War records is at:
http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/civilwar.html. This is the National
Archives site, and they have a form (NATF 80) you can request by
emailing inquire(a)nara.gov that you can use to order a soldier's service
records. This can be an excellent source of information on a soldier
and his family.
Good luck!

some info I didn't have and some family photos I didn't have, but I haven't
heard from her since....Her mother had been quite ill, so I'm assuming that
maybe she is still not doing to good and I think that she mentioned a brother
that is handicapped as well that had lived with the mother....still hoping to
hear from her sometime...
Again, Thanks for the information on George.

died of wounds received during the Civil War ,but that's all I know about
it....I do know he died 15 Jan 1863.....Hoping someone will be able to help me
