We got back from Indiana two weeks ago. The Shields cemetery is difficult to find. If
you wait until after corn planting, it may be impossible to get to. It is surrounded by a
cornfield, no access road. We hiked 1/2 a mile through felled cornstalks to get to it. I
have pictures of some Mills and Shields stones - I can pass to you, if you like. I have a
map we got from area Funeral Director in Hartford City. Problem - you need an appointment
with Hartford City historical society, they are not open every day. John Saxon is buried
at Hartford City Cemetery - the keeper there was very helpful. Adam Shields, John Mills
(Captain of SC Dragoons, Revol War), Lairewood Mills, Martha Shields, Jenny Miles Berry,
Thomas Miles (Pvt Continental Line, Revol War) are the ones I took at Shields Cem. I'm
sorry, but Deaver does not ring a bell. But Ft. Wayne Libary had a huge geneaolgy section
(we were there one afternoon only) - and a whole section on just Indiana. I highly
recomme!
nd it for cemetery records. We found our Civil War soldier cemetery record there, Alvah
Townsend at Miles Cemtery. Hope to hear from you. robert.clark2(a)comcast.net
