In the matter of the petition of Henry A. Boots and Grace M. Boots his wife to adopt Anna
Lee Carroll
Comes now the Board of Children's Guardians of Marion County, State of Indiana, by Lee
F. Sprague, their attorney, of which Board of Children's Guardians said Anna Lee
Carroll is a ward, and files a certified copy of the proceedings of said Board as follows,
(H.I.), whereby they consent to the adoption of said Anna Lee Carroll, as prayed for in
said proceedings. And the Court having heard the evidence and proofs adduced and being
duly advised in the premises, finds that the statements set forth in the certified copy of
proceedings of said Board are true, and that it is for the best interest of said Anna Lee
Carroll that she be adopted by the said petitioners, Henry A Boots and Grace M. Boots his
wife. It is therefore ordered by the Court that said Anna Lee Carroll be and she is
hereby adopted by said Henry A. Boots and Grace M. Boots, his wife, as their heir-at-law,
and that her name be changed to Dorothy May Boots.
It is further ordered by the Court that the petitioners pay the costs of this proceeding,
taxed at ______ dollars and ____ cents.
I am not related to Anna Lee Carroll, but I hope this adoption information will help
someone. Anna was renamed Dorothy May Boots. She married Joseph C. Atkinson. Her obit
lists her name as Dortha May Atkinson, naming Henry Allen and Grace M (Hudson) Boots as
her parents. I have a copy of her obit.
Henry Allen Boots was married to Grace M. Hudson. Henry was the son of Israel Boots and
Lacy Gadbury. Lacy Gadbury was the daughter of Allen Gadbury and Lucy Ann Townsend, Lucy
Ann Townsend was the daughter of Gilbert Townsend and Mary (Polly) Saxon, Mary Saxon was
the daughter of John Saxon, Rev. War soldier buried in Blackford County, and Elizabeth
Evans.
I do have a great deal of information about the above families which I would be very
willing to share.
