Peggy Karol - The oldest George you have, born abt. 1794, is the son of Gottleib Leffler,
Jr and Magdalena Fisher. Gottleib died when George was less than 10 (I don't have the
exact date, but by 1804) in Pennsylvania. Magdalena and her children then apparently
moved with her father and step-mother (who was a sister to her deceased husband) to Perry
County, IN. I am not certain when they came to Perry County, but they are found in the
1820 census there. Gottleib Leffler, Jr. and my 4g grandfather, Phillip, were the sons of
Gottleib Leffler of Northumberland County, PA who died about 1794.
I have recently begun researching this line of the Leffler family using census records
mostly plus information I have found on message boards (which I always try to verify, but
it is often as accurate as what I find elsewhere). As you have noted, the problems start
when there are too many with the same first name. The name George can be a problem - I
have 26 in my database, some with middle initials (5 or 6 George W's), but I think I
have this one sorted out OK. Gottleib did not have a George, but his sons named a child
George - I assume for G. Washington and the name often carried on. If you would like what
I have on this family, I can email it to you. It is long to put on the message board, but
I can. If you would rather send me your email, I will do it that way. My email is:
