I have a relative named Thomas Hughes Bowen (1823-1846). He was born in Fairfield Co.,
Ohio to Thomas and Anah Bowen. He went with his parents probably first to Henry Co. Ind.
for a short time, then to Blackford Co. in 1837. He was apparently named after Thomas
Hughes, who was close to the Bowen family in migration. A Thomas Hughes came from Henry
Co., Ind. and received a land patent dated 8/20/1838 in Jackson twp., Blackford Co., in
Section 25 for 160 acres. He sold the land in Oct. 1839 while a resident of Delaware Co.
but I do not find him listed in the 1840 census. In 1842, a Thomas Hughes donated a lot in
Granville, in the adjacent Niles twp., Delaware Co., to build the Christian Church of
Granville.
Can anyone connect the Hughes family to the Bowen family?
