The Indiana Historical Society will host Researching
Church Records
genealogy lecture from 10 a.m. to noon on November 20
at the Indiana
History Center.
Church records are a valuable research
tool because they
are
often the only source for information before vital
records were
recorded
by government agencies. Lloyd Hosman will explain the
importance of
church records in genealogical research, give some
historic background
to immigration patterns by nationality and
denomination and provide
information on where and how to access church records.
Hosman will
focus on birth, death and marriage records kept by
churches and some
problems researchers might encounter using these
records.
Hosman is a registered professional
genealogist with over
20
years experience in research analysis. He writes a
weekly genealogy
column in The Antique Week and is the author of
Newspaper Research.
Hosman also owns Genealogically Yours, a professional
research
business.
The cost to attend is $10; $5 IHS members.
Pre-registration is
recommended. To register or for additional information
call (317)
232-1882 or (800) 447-1830. A registration brochure
