Hess—Phillips.
The wedding of Miss Laura Phillips and Mr. Robert Hess was solemnized at
the Cathedral at 9 o'clock on Saturday by Rev. P. F. Roche, who celebrated
the nuptial mass. The bride entered the church with her father, Mr. Leo
Phillips, and she was attended by her sister. Miss Gertrude Phillips. Mr.
T. C. Phillips, of Chicago, was best man and Mr. V. L. Phillips, of the
same city, acted as an usher. The bride looked very sweet and pretty in a
fine white organdie trimmed, elaborately with embroidery and lace. Instead
of a veil the bride wore a lace hat trimmed with flowers and aigrettes. The
bridesmaid wore a yellow batiste gown with hat to correspond. The wedding
breakfast was served at the bride's home, 1837 South Broadway, and Mrs.
Graffe catered. Miss Margaret Strube and Miss Isabella Ehrman assisted in
the dining room. The decorations were pink and white sweetpeas and roses.
The bride and groom left in the afternoon for a trip to i o great lakes.
They will make their home in Monroeville, Ohio, where Mr. Hess is a partner
in the Hess Hardware company. The bride has lived in this city for the past
four years, the family formerly living in Mt. Carrol, III. Miss Elizabeth
Hess, of Monroeville, Ohio; Miss Gertrude Phillips and Mrs. Priscilla
Phillips, of Freeport, III., were other guests from out of town who were
present at the wedding.
