Death records and obituaries are on microfilm at the Allen County Public
Library
http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy/index.html and a lot of cemetery
and funeral home records are in books.
I normally don't have time to respond to requests, but I have used Noble
County resources before so I know where to look and I used the ACPL obituary
online index
http://friendsofallencounty.org/results_obits1900.php and found
a goldmine! The layout does not copy well into plain email. John Lancaster
had two wives named Mary - VanFleet and Parker (Parker is a local name on
the northeast side of the city today where there is a Parker cemetery) You
can request the obituaries from the Allen County Public Library. There may
or may not be a death record on microfilm. Volunteers at the library will
copy obituaries if you contact them at genealogy(a)acpl.info . Pre 1900
obituaries are hard to find in the old newspapers because they did not
record the newspaper names, so I'm not sure the volunteers could find them.
Usually the information in the books is all that was in the newspaper. The
books they used for the online index only record the information and there
were 8 or 10 newspapers, some dailies or weeklies that went out of business
or merged into our current 2 newspapers today. Some of these newspapers
before 1920 are online at the library computers or by subscription on
Ancestry.com in their periodical section.

Eliza died in Noble County so maybe she was from Noble County and John
Lancaster wanted to be buried with his second wife Mary in Fort Wayne? But
Eliza is not found in Noble County Cemeteries online
http://gen.nobleco.lib.in.us/Cemeteries/XstoneL.htm so may have been buried
in Allen County or another county?

resources in books and increasingly more online resources. You can visit

Subject: [INALLEN] John Lancaster in Fort Wayne 1870 - 1900s
Hello,
I believe I've found an additional brother for my Lancaster family. They
originated in Lancashire, England. Specifically to JOHN LANCASTER,
however....
He was born ca. 1823, lived in N.J. after immigration, and by 1870 was
living in FORT WAYNE with wife MARY (maiden name unknown), and youngest son
Charles. (two other sons disappeared by then.)
Mary died, and John remarried in Fort Wayne, 1875, ELIZA ANNA NULE (or
Nulf).
(Ind Marriage Index,
Ancestry.com)
In 1880 they lived on Chicago St.
By 1900, Eliza was a widow, living in Sparta Twp. Noble county.
John's death does not show up on the Ind. Death Index (1882-1920) on
Ancestry. Perhaps he died between 1880-1882.
Do you have any suggestions on how I might go about obtaining a death
record, burial record, obituary... or other resource that might further
identify him, as well as provide the death date?
Thanks for any help and ideas.
