Boy, this really stinks. Wish I could understand why folks out there have
to crap us neat folks up in this fashion!

Subject: [INALLEN-L] Sons of Italy Foundation
My Grandmother Barrone recieved a piece of bulk mail from Sons of
Italy
Foundation, 219 E. St., NE., Washington DC 20002. It says they utilized
Vantage Financial Services, Inc., a direct mail marketing firm to provide
services relative to the mailing.
The letter says, in colclusion:
"Please think about your heritage as an Italian American and then send a
donation of $8, $10, $12 or more to become 'Friend of the Sons of Italy
Foundation' today."
The envelope included printed return address labels with a graphic of the
American and Italian flags crossed.
My family has NO Italian ancestry. Obviously, they assumed my surname,
BARRONE, is Italian. Our BARRONE was modified from BARRON, and our
immigrant ancestor, Nicholas Barron, was born 1731 in Germany and settled
in Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. My 2nd great-grandfather, Michael Barrone,
settled in Allen Co., Indiana around 1849.
I find this type of mailing to be harmful to the study of genealogy in
that it spreads misconceptions to those ignorant of their family history.
Have a good day!
