Dear List,
Our server crashed for about 24 hours...noon on May 18 to noon on May
19, so any of my mailings bounced.
I had just joined and posted an important query to this list.
Regretfully, if there were any responses I did not receive them. If
there were any e-mails to my query to the INALLEN-L mailing list during
that time period, would someone be kind to forward them to me???
I appreciate your assistance.
*Thank you.*
Lovingly,
Gail Gregg Ferris in NE...my initial query follows:
Dear Allen County mailing list,
I am a new subscriber and am searching for information about my JAMES
family. They arrived in the Fort Wayne area in 1866 with a family of up
to nine children. No doubt some of the JAMES children married and
remained in this area. At the present time, this is all I know for
certain:
1._____? James b. PA m. _____? _____? b.MD
2. Joshua James b. 13 Oct 1811 MD d. 1895 Merrick Co., NE
m. Katherine Brown b. 12 Mar. 1820 MD d. 1896 Merrick Co., NE
(both of her parents were born in MD)
3. Katherine Amanda James b. 23 Dec. 1863 MD d. 1924 Merrick Co.,
NE
(obituary lists birth: Havre de Grace, Harford Co., MD)
(she would be my great grandmother)
m. Hiram Marcus Dexter 3 Aug. 1882
(they gave birth to my dad's mother, Dorothy Dexter Gregg)
I discovered information in the Merrick County, NE, obituary of my great
grandmother, Katherine Amanda James: "She was the youngest of 9
children all of whom have proceeded her to the grave except one
brother. At the age of three years (1866) she moved with her parents to
Ft. Wayne, (Allen Co.), Indiana. When she was 14 years old (1877) they
moved by wagon to Nebraska, locating near Clarks (Merrick County, NE).
Later they moved to Silver Creek (Merrick County, NE)."
Joshua Jame's parents were "possibly" Joseph b. abt 1772 and Elizabeth
b. abt 1779.
"Possible" siblings of my great grandmother are: Harriett O. b. abt
1834, Mary A. b. abt 1835, Alice A. b. abt 1847, Elizabeth C. b. abt
1848, Joseph b. abt 1851, Ida b. abt 1860, and Hattie b. abt 1862.
(Harriett O. and Mary A., could possibly be sisters of Joshua, I
suppose...I realize some of the dates don't compute!)
My GG grandfather, Joshua James, ran the first mill in Silver Creek, NE,
and possibly ran one in Harlin, IN.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Hope this connects with
someone from my James family.
Lovingly,
Gail Gregg Ferris in NE
