Fort Wayne Weekly Sentinel, 15 Feb 1905:
"MASHER GETS TERM FOR STEALING RINGS.
Henry Marlin Sent Over for Thirty-Five Days - - Police Court.
Henry Marlin was given a jail sentance of twenty days with a fine of $5 and costs in
police court Saturday morning on the charge of stealing two rings from Mary Metzler, of
1161 West Main street. The girl testified that she met Marlin last summer and he asked
her to let him see two rings she had on her finger and she handed them to him.
He refused to return them and after his arrest yesterday Detective Rulo learned that he
had given one of the rings to Miss Pearl Sellers, of Payne, O., and the other to Miss
Myrtle Marquardt, of Monroeville. He denied on the stand Saturday that he intended to
steal the rings and said he expected to return them.
Marlin was a member of the First coast artillery and served a little more than a year in
Cuba. He stated that during his enlistment in the army he studied civil engineering and
had intended to take a civil service examination for a place on the Panama canal. He has
been engaged in conducting a shooting gallery at Monroeville."
