Scott,
Lindenwood Cemetery was not founded until 1859, and dedicated 1860.
Have you checked Saint Peter Lutheran Cemetery - Old. You might want to
check with the church, their address is:
St. Peter's Lutheran Church
7710 E. State Blvd.
Fort Wayne, IN 46815

Subject: [INALLEN-L] Alen County Cemetery Resources
Some of this may have been posted before.
Peter & Margaret (Schmidt) arrived in the United States from Germany in
June
of 1846 and they settled in Allen County, IN. In 1848, the marriage
of
Peter's daughter is noted in St Paul Lutheran records. In 1850 Peter and
family are living in St Joseph Township. Although I have been unable to
find Peter purchasing any land, an analysis of land ownership of the folks
enumerated near Peter would seem to indicate that he lived near the
current
intersection of Lake Ave & Hwy 930 in southwestern St Joseph
Township.
I have been searching, without success, for the final resting place of
Peter
& Margaret (Schmidt) Boseker. Peter is listed as passing away in
1857 by
his son, Christian Boseker, in the biography recorded in "Valley of the
Upper Maumee River; Volume 2" published by Brant & Fuller in 1889. This
same source notes the passing of Margaret (Schmidt) Boseker in 1865.
I have found a record In St Peter Lutheran records (Kirchen Buch; St.
Petri
Kirche; St Joseph townsh., Allen Count., Indiana; 1856-1885 Book 1)
that
I
believe refers to Margaret (Schmidt) Boseker when it mentions
"Wittwe
Bosecker" communed on the 17th Sunday after Pentecost in 1856 (this would
be
in September I think). If this is the spouse of Peter Boseker then,
obviously, Peter had expired prior to 1857.
I have examined the various Allen cemetery books but I have found no
record
of Peter Boseker or his spouse. Most of Peter's male children
are buried
in
Lindenwood Cemetery.
Many years ago I visited Ft Wayne and I stopped by Lindenwood to check
their
records. My recollection is that the lady behind the counter would
not
allow be to see the records and she disappeared into another room to look
for Peter & spouse for me. She reappeared after a brief absence and told
me
that they had no record of them. With the various spelling
permutations
of
Boseker, I was not happy with this situation but I had no other
search
options.
Questions:
Has there been any change regarding access to Lindenwood's records since
my
visit almost 15 years ago?
So the published cemetery books have any known "problems"? Any cemeteries
missed?
