Dear Gary,
I haven't heard from Terry Pepper, but I managed to find his website.
WOW!!!
Not only is it a great site, there is a picture of Asa Fairfield, and
also
one of the exterior or Asa's home in Fort Wayne! I have an old letter from
his granddaughter (to my grandmother) that gives a brief description of
the
interior of the home, but I had never seen a picture or read a
description
of the exterior. Needless to say, you made my day!
Also, I particularly enjoyed your description of the geography, river
system
and the flooding. My mother has some very old pictures of one of the
great
floods. The one I remember best offhand is of men stacking sandbags. I
don't
remember the year, or if it's even indicated on the photo.
Below is the URL for Terry's website. I recommend it to anyone with an
interest in Indiana history. Thanks again for recommending it to me!
Sincerely,
Laura Cooper
