Hi Dotty:
My response to your comments follow your lines, broken up so I can

Subject: Re: [INALLEN-L] Federal Census Searches
Bob: Aloha, again. Ray and Velma are living together, husband &
wife,
in 1910 in the 4th Ward, Ft. Wayne, District 41.
### No, not quite accurate. It
was Ray and Wilda/Hilda (Zengenfus) Dutton
living together! Velma wasn't born until 1901, so it would be almost
impossible for her to be married at the age of 9. Until folks began
responding to my query yesterday, I had no idea that Ray had a previous
marriage.
I could find nothing
for them in 1920. I tried everything I could think of for all states.
### At least two other responders suffered the same fate on this one.
Keeping in mind that Ray was born in 1888, he should have been a 32 yr-old
husband. One researcher found him living with his mother-in-law (and wife)
in Ft. Wayne. Zengenfus is a very loose interpretation of the handwriting
of the 1910 and 1920 entries.
In 1930 they lived as husband and wife in Wayne Twp, Allen Co., IN.
#### And, as newly-weds! They (Ray and Velda)were married in 1929.
In
the 1910 census Ray is listed as 25, Velma as 24.
#### A loose
interpretation of his 1888 birth date; we have not looked into
Wilda/Hilda's birth date yet.
In 1930 Ray is
listed as 40, Velma as 29 (twenty-nine).
#### Again, a loose
interpretation of his actual age/birth year. He was
closer to 42, if not already 42. Velma's is accurate, suggesting that she
was the informant for the enumerator's visit. Makes one wonder whether he
divulged all of his personnal data to Velma!! <g>
1910: He and both his
parents were listed as born in Ohio, he was a barber who owned his
own
shop.
#### The City Directory for 1910 matches the occupation info! Info from
Hanncock, Hardin and Brown Cos. in Ohio agree with his parents' birthplaces.
Velma was listed as born in IN, her father in IN and her mother
in OH.
#### Again, if this is the 1910 census info, then it
pertains to
Wilda/Hilda, not Velma! The info below will be placed in our Velma folder,
if you agree!
I think this (OH) is in error, as her mother was Emilie Lisette
Wilhelmine Gallmeyer, if I am not mistaken, who was born in Milan
Twp,
Allen Co. IN. This was at Gar Creek. Her siblings were baptized at
Martini, Emmanuel in New Haven and St. Paul at Gar Creek, but I think
they lived in those years at Gar Creek. Emilie's father was brother to
my G-Grandfather.
#### Thank you for the research assist! Please let us know if
you have any
problems with the commentary that I have added herewith! (one list member
has offered to obtain copies of the census pages and mail them to us. I
believe that I will take him up on his offer.)
As always, Bob and my Dutton in-laws.
