Here are some ideas--first, it woud be much more common to find that the
spelling is Vanous. Second, there is a listing of ships that came to New
York which includes their port of departure. So, you can quickly look for
ships from Czech. This would immediately reduce your search from 10 rolls
of microfilm to several feet!! When I did that, I found in an index that
there were a bunch of people spelled Vanous that came in 1877. You would
have to look up the ship records to get the dates in 1877 as I do not have
that here. But there is even an easier way--there is a set of books called
Czech Immigration Passenger Lists by Leo Baca. He is in Texas and sells
the books. I would think that Allen County would have them. One key for
these look-ups will be the age of the poeple when they came over. For
example, Anton Vanous was 3 years and Anna was 9 years in 1877, if these
are your people.
