Hello,
I'm resubscribing to this list, and working on these lines in preparation
for our trip back east, as it looks like we will actually have a chance to
spend a day in Fort Wayne at that wonderful library I've heard so much about
(hopefully, it won't be closed for construction, and everything has moved
back where it belongs...I don't know, need an update since I've been off
this list so long...if anyone can fill me in, I'd appreciate it...)
Wondering if anyone knows if copies of the marriage indexes are available
for Allen Co at the library, or if the only resource is the county clerk's
office? On one of our KELLY/KELLEY branches, a daughter of Mary Kelly
PHILLIPS was married to a Paul ELLIOTT--I believe her name was Margaret or
Marguerite. The marriage probably happened somewhere after the 1920 census
but before the 1930 census, but the data on
ancestry.com doesn't go beyond
1920, and I don't have a firm date to just write the county for a copy of
the cert.
My other problem is that the Phillips' girl's sister, Helen, supposedly
married a man named Ralph E. LANDIS, but a check of census info during that
time period doesn't show anyone in the entire country with that name and a
reasonable age range to match. Once again, I have no online access to
marriage data after 1920, so need to access a marriage index, which I'm
hoping the library has.
Also, if any seasoned travelers have any tips for me on how to pack my day
to get the most out of it at the best sources of gen info at Ft. Wayne (or
anything to avoid that would take too long for one day's visit), I'd
appreciate hearing from you. We have a limited amt of time, and don't want
to waste it wandering about aimlessly, but get right to the best sources of
info (i.e., not going to the wrong branch on a day they are closed, etc...)
thanks in advance,
Jacqi
