Karl,
You're an angel to do that for me! I will await your response with bated
breath. You all in Allen County have been so wonderful to me!

Coming in on this topic late.
The old school house and the church are both converted into residences. I
think the old farm house on the West side of the road is possibly still there
(owned by a very nice couple) but I don't think the house on the East side is
there now. The area is somewhat developed. Houses on several acre plots.
Interstate 69 runs to the east of this area. Part of this area is a girl
scout camp and part of it is an Isaac Walton Preserve. There still is
farming in this area.
About how far are these houses suppose to be from the intersection of Chapman
and Auburn Road?
Also I missed the part about the Slave tunnels. Could you please repeat that?
Dave
Karen,
Huntertown Cemetery is a public cemetery.
I drove past 2421 Spy Run today. There is a Burger King at that approximate
location.

Hi Jo Ann!
>From what I can tell, the Myers farm was south of the Chapman Road (where it
dead-ends into Auburn Road), and on the west side of Auburn Road. The church
and school are located on the west side of Auburn Road -- the church on the
south side of Chapman Road and the school on the north side of Chapman Road,
right? The cemetery should be on the east side of Auburn Road, across the
street from the church? From the township map I'm looking at, the Reinhold
house was on the same side of the Auburn Road as the cemetery; the Myers
house was on the same side of Auburn Road as the church and school.
The church was located on the northernmost part of the Myers farm.
Apparently the land for the church was donated by our Myers family. One
account I read was that Mandis Myers donated the land. I don't know if it
was Mandis or Nathan, as Nathan appears to be the landowner at that time.
Anyway, the Myers farmhouse was directly south of the church. If you draw a
line from the church directly south, you will see the indication for the
Myers residence there.
I know it's a longshot, but I have been wondering if that house is still
standing? If would be very, very old by now. Not being at all familiar with
the area (I live in the western suburbs of Chicago), I don't know how much
development has taken place, but hope does spring eternal!
Thanks for responding. It's pretty interesting about the Reinhold house
having slave tunnels!

Karl,
Well . . . I've never been to Allen County, so I'm just going to "wing it."
On the 1880 and 1898 township maps, the residence on the Myers land is the
first residence shown south of Dutch Ridge Church, along Auburn Road. Now, I
don't know what the lay of the land is now -- maybe it's built up and there
are lots of residences there (like here, where I live, where farmland is only
a sweet memory).

Does anyone on this list have any MYERS connections? My Myers family lived
in the Dutch Ridge area of Perry Township. Linda Churchward has been
wonderful in helping me and my father uncover information about our ancestors
and about the Dutch Ridge area in general.
Is there anyone living in the Dutch Ridge area who can tell me whether my
ggg-grandparents' house is still standing? My ggg-grandfather was Nathan
Myers. The Dutch Ridge church is standing on the northeast corner of what
was once his land. The township maps of 1880 and 1898 show there was a house
on the east side of the property, later to be inhabited by Dan Myers, on the
Auburn Road. The Myers house was across the road from Henry Reinhold's house
at the turn of the century.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated!
Karen
Was Huntertown Cemetery just a public cemetery or was it a church's cemetery?
Some of our MYERS family members are buried there and some are buried in
Dutch Ridge Cemetery. I'm trying to figure out why they weren't all buried
in the same cemetery.
Interestingly, someone is putting flowers on Israel and Catharine Myers'
grave markers in Huntertown Cemetery. Obviously, we've got family in the
area that we don't know about! I would really, really love to connect to
these folks.
Thanks,
Karen
Hi! I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a woman named Mrs. Edith (Hall) Stevens whose last known residence was Fort Wayne in 1945. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Lorrie-Anne
Thanks, Pat! This Roux family has been a real mystery to try to solve!

I just found a Charles Laroux, died 1-30-1879, Fort Wayne. Since Charles Adolphus Roux (Laroux) had arrived about this time with his mother and brother, I wonder if this was not his father? We were always told the father was not with the family when they emigrated from France. But maybe he did emigrate with the family then died shortly thereafter. How would I find out more about this? It was just an obit search for Fort Wayne and didn't give any more information than this. Terry Spear of Crawford, Texas
Still trying to find my elusive Roux family. Charles Adolphus was born in 1871 in Alsace. Niece, Irene Roux, was born in 1898 in Fort Wayne and she married Leo J. Poinsette/Poinsatte of Fort Wayne. Karen,
I sent to the Railroad Retirement Board and got records for my
great-grandfather in 1994. This has been a number of years ago so I do not
know what they might charge. They sent me a history of his employment and his
pension. It was very helpful to me and give me a number of leads.

Good Luck,
Marcia
I have recently disovered that my great-grandfather, Emanuel A. Myers, was a
fireman with the New York Central & St. Louis Railroad in 1910. He was
living at 2421 Spy Run Avenue according to the Fort Wayne City Directory. I
would like to find out more about him. Does anyone know if there are rosters
or records available for railroad service from this time period -- or where I
should inquire to find out? My great-grandfather died in 1952. Were
railroad retirement benefits around at that time so there may be some records
regarding him?
Can anyone tell me whether this address on Spy Run Avenue still exists? Is
it a house or apartment? I know next to nothing at all about my
great-grandfather. He died in the Lawton Nursing Home and was given a
welfare burial -- buried in the Allen County Cemetery in an unmarked grave.
Can anyone out there give me a history lesson about the welfare system around
1952? I know absolutely nothing at all about it.
I believe Emanuel's father, Israel, may have also been a fireman on the
railroad in 1905, but haven't confirmed this yet either.
You all have been a great help to me and my father. We both appreciate all
the time and effort our fellow listers have given us so far!

Hi Pat,
My name is Jim Stahl, I live in PA.One branch of my family left Indiana
Co., PA and moved to Fort Wayne after the Civil war. They were Reuben and
Barbara [Stadtmiller Stahl].Living back here I've been struggling for info
on this family.
I have finally compiled a list of their children with some of their spouses.
I suspect most of them to be buried in the Catholic Cemetery. This is quite
a list, so if you can't look them up , I understand.

CHARLES SYLVESTER STAHL [The Baseball Player] md Julian Harmon
PERRY STAHL md VIVIAN
FREDERICK STAHL md KATHRYN

To my knowledge all these folks were born between 1865 and 1895.
THANK YOU

Hi List,
Just thought I'd share the news that I found out. I was at the "headquarters" of my local library and they told me they have a subscription to Ancestry.com, and are trying to get the census images too! So I suggest that everyone check their local library and see if they have it too.
