My father was born in Fort Wayne on Jan. 12, 1905. He did not have a birth
certificate, but he was baptised. He may have been baptised in a
Presbyterian church, but he may also been baptised in a Methodist church.
If you could check the records you have, I would appreciate it. His name
was Alvin Jack Carney. His father: Pearl Carney; his mother: Grace Louise
Jack. I hope I'm not sending you on a wild goose chase.

Hello!!
I would like to share with the list and to new members about a website
called Genealogy Look Up Forum. It is a website of volunteers who will
do various types of look ups in many states. The URL address is
http://www.expage.com/page/genealogylookup. I hope it will be helpful
to many people in their research.

I have found some information that applies to my family tree but it is

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Cathy,
I have Family TreeMaker of Windows 6.0.
You can use Family Tree Maker to manipulate that gedcom to extract just the
data you want.
NOTE: Begin back backing up your current FTM master database and its backup.
Mine store as .FTW and .FBK files.
1) Open the gedcom you downloaded and save it as an FTM file. Your original
family file will be saved during this process. I would save the downloaded
gedcom and the newly created FTM file based on it in a folder by itself.
2) Then go into your Report form in FTM and choose a Custom Report format.
3) With this Custom Report format, right click your mouse button and select
Individuals to Include. You can select only the people you want to see in the
report individually or by selecting one person and then choosing all
descendants or ancestors or both. Review your report to make sure you've
included only the individuals you wanted to include.
4) Once the report rebuilds itself, you can export only those people in that
report to their own gedcom or FTM file by selecting the "File" menu option
and then the "Copy/Export Individuals in Report." Make sure to use a new
filename and store this smaller file separate from you own master database.
5) Now you can open this new fil and review it again in FTM database format.
or ...
6) Re-open your own original FTM file and merge your newly crreated file
into it.
Once you get the hang of this procedure, it really works quite nicely. I use
this custom report technique to extract specific lines from my master
database for relatives who want limited gedcom data on that line.
Good Luck!!
Have a great day! :-)

I have been looking for my g-grandmother. She came here from Germany. I don't
know when or where for sure. Her name was Barbra Newberger & I think she came
from somewhere around Heidelberg. The spelling came from my grandmother's
application for marriage. I hope you have good luck with my name. I wait to
hear from you. Many thanks.
Cathy,
There is a MERGE function under teh FILE heading. however, make sure that
you back up your orignal file (not just the normal FTM back-up, but make a
separate file name; do not use the back-up file in this operation).
The problme will be that FTM can merge those names and dates that seem to
match perfectly, but the others it goes thorugh and lets you decide.
unfortunately, if you go through and merge a husband, it will give the wife
two husbands (the same name) and you will ahve to go through and merge
these too. So, be prepared for a long arduous process.
Alternatively, you can take the GEDCOM you have and make it into a FTM file
by itslef and then make smaller trees (like asn outlien descendant tree and
copy this tree to a 3rd file and then merge this smaller file with your
original file. being smaller, it is muc easier to handle (I think).

Thanks for the info on the Raneys.
Well, that list will take me a while. I'll get back to you after I've
had a chance to look later. Since the baptisms and marriages aren't
indexed it will take longer. The memberships is in alpha order but
that's all.

Thank you Pat,
William C. Raney and Elsie Maud Kimmel were my grandparents. His
brother, Theodore S. Raney, and her sister, Mae C. Kimmel were married in
Wayne St. M.E. Church five months earlier. The Mrs. Theodore Raney you knew
was the 2nd wife of Theodore, following Mae's death in 1947. Theodore's 2nd
wife was a 1st cousin of his 1st wife Mae. Her maiden name was Elva Ione
Connett but she was also on her 2nd marriage, following the passing of her
1st husband, Ernest Emrich, who preceded her in death by over 65 years. My
Great Aunt Elva passed away in 1983 at the grand age of 91.
As to specific names and dates for lookups in the Wayne St. M.E.
Church records, the birth years for the above mentioned individuals for
possible baptismal records are as follows:
William C. Raney b. 1885
Theodore S. Raney b.1883
Elsie M. Kimmel b.1889
Mae C. Kimmel b. 1886
There was also Elsie Raney b. 1889 who married (m.1909) Henry Rapp b. 1885

John Raney (b. Scotland) who married (m.1882) Emma Elizabeth Reed (b.1865)
Newton Kimmel (b.1860) who married (m.1884) Catherine McNair (b. 1865)
Aunts, Uncles, and a few of the cousins with possible Wayne St. M.E. Church
ties for which baptismal (post 1859) and/or marriage records (post 1863)
might exist include:
William George Pool who married (m. 1866) Mary Ann Mathias
James Thomas Pool who married (m. 1865) Eva Elizabeth Hazzard
Francis Pool (b. 1867) who married (m. 1893) Flora B. Houghton (b. 1869)

Thanks again,
Rich Raney
Rich, I just noticed another Raney/Kimmel marriage:
Mel (something) C. Raney and Elsie Kimmel on December 23, 1909. Same
preacher but no other notes. Also a Claud Kimmel to Kiester woman (can't
make out name) on August 14, 1909, same minister.
I remember a Mrs. Theodore Raney from years ago. Was she your mother?

Hi Pat,
I think I found some Methodists! I know for a fact that my parents and
paternal grandparents were married at Wayne St. M.E. Church, but that was
after 1907. In the time frames you offer, I'm not too sure who was there, as
my kinfolk church-hopped a bit. My likely surnames are KIMMEL , RANEY, POOL,
and MCNAIR. Less likely are BRANSTRATOR, (Jesse) RICE, and (George W.) REED.
Thanks,

Jim,
Regarding Monroeville Barnharts. You might want to check the Allen Co.
GenWeb Page. Click on churches, then Monroe Twp. I have listed all churches
in Monroe Twp. and a short history of the church plus what records they have
kept.
Hope this is of help.

Karen, Myers/Meyer is a common name and there are some in these books.
Perry township is a long way (in those days) from Wayne Township
(downtown Fort Wayne) where the church was located so it's doubtful that
anyone would travel that many miles to church. I'd suggest you search
for Perry Township records.

Hi Pat,
How are you doing? Long time no hear. Hope all is well.
Thanks for the offer. I don't think I have any Methodists, just
Presbyterians.

Terry, I do not find the La Roux name in the books. I would suggest that
they probably were Catholics. La Roux sounds like a French name and the
current Poinsettes in town are Catholic. You might try some of the
Catholic records in Allen County.

What a generous offer. I'll try not to complicate your life, but if while
you're searching for others with more specific dates and names, if ya run
across any BARNHARTs would ya let me know. My BARNHARTS lived in Monroeville
Indiana, as a matter of fact, Monroeville was platted by John & Jacob
BARNHART, sons of Peter BARNHART, around 1850. I also know they were
Methodists. So..., anything ya find will be appreciated.
