Corner of Jefferson and Barr. The building is still there, and the pharmacy MAY
have still been in operation into the late '70s.
Chris, do you live in town? I somehow got the impression that you did. If so,
it's the building on the southeast corner just north of St. Paul's.

Cris, I can check the City Directories next week when I go to the
library to see if there is a Bessie Chilcote listed in the 50s. If she
was working she should be in the city directory I would think.

Cris, it was located at the corner of Jefferson and Barr. I'm not sure
how long it was there but I've been here since 1952 and it was there
when I came to town. It seems like it just ceased operation a few years
ago. Times goes quickly so it may have been longer.

Hi again!
I am looking in particular for the family which Bessie Chilcote belonged
to. She worked as a clerk for the Jefferson Liquor Shop in the 50's.
Thanks!
Cris
Has anyone ever heard of Jefferson Pharmacy?
If so where was it located?
What years was it in operation?
I know it no longer exists, but trying to find out about it. I know it was
in operation in the 50's
Thanks!

Thanks for the message. The article was not clear on the matter of land
ownership and borders:
The cemetery IS township property, and that property borders with the road
on the west, the Dawson farm on the North and East, and another farm on
the south. The problem is that the ditch lies between the road and the
cemetery.
If anyone knows of a source of funds to allow the bridge construction,
please let me or Trustee Max Meyer know about it. Brown Cemetery could
use a wealthy benefactor.
Have a good day!

I am searching for the family of Israel Myers and Kate Whiteman. They are my
great-great-grandparents. We know they had one son, Emmanuel, who married
Lola Abel in 1905. Very little is known about these individuals and we would
love to find out more!
They apparently lived in Perry Township, Allen County, at one time.
Thanks for any help!

I grew up with Freddie Bender who lived on 4th Street in Fort Wayne,
but I have no idea who his parents were. Interestingly enough, after I got
married, I found a picture of my brother-in-law posing in front of Freddie's
house in a woman's hat, so they must have been friends.
My bro in law is dead now, so I cannot inquire, but this Freddie and I
were probably about same age, b. circa 1929.

Okay, folks, here's the word from both the courthouse and from the Allen
County Genealogical Society (where I met Pam Bogel last night in
person).
Obviously, the Recorder's office does not do lookups themselves. Their
information on the pros doing lookups was out of date, but I contacted
one of the names on their list and last night got an update on who is
available to do lookups for a fee. The results are:
Ruth Haste
rhaste(a)juno.com
Mary Catherine Grobis
pgrobis(a)ctlnet.com
The society has a web page (which I haven't visited yet) at

Cris, I was sure it was you that I had tried to find something for. I
read the article with interest. Surely, someone, somewhere knows
something. Maybe the article will bring someone forward. Good luck.

Many thanks to all who responded to my posting. My Blaising, Becker, and
Hirschbeck direct from Moselle (Dept 57) Lorraine, Fr. to Allen Co.
Jeanette: Sorry but no connection that I am aware of, my French Beckers, to
your German Beckers.
Loretta: Many thanks for sharing the info about the "Riverhaven" families, and
about the Arthur Blaising Community Center. Arthur Blaising was a g-grandson
of imm. widow Mary Blaising. You did answer one of the little burning
questions in the back of my mind. Many-Many thanks. Will be in touch
privately.

Hi,
Just thought you all would like to know that I am the one who previously
asked about Lydia Shapiro. I am also the adoptee that this story is
written about.
So......Anyone heard of her or know anything? I could use all the help I
can get.
Thanks!

Regarding the Blaising family, probably the people with the most
information died within the last 10 years. Most of the Blaisings in
Adams Twp. are "Riverhaven" families. This is a small community which
was once between New Haven and Fort Wayne but has, I believe, been
annexed by one or the other - probably Fort Wayne. It is on the banks of
the Maumee River. Art and Mary Blaising were the grand old family of
Riverhaven and the Art Blaising Community Center stands as a tribute.
This is a true river community; proud, isolated by choice and gets a bad
rap because most people can't imagine why in the world anyone would
CHOOSE to live there. It is made up largely of families originally from
Kentucky and Tennessee who came to Fort Wayne to work at: International
Harvester, Dana Corporation, N & W Railroad and other places, of course.
They probably have numerous connections to the Saylor family, but I
don't know for sure.
I met Art and Mary both when I was working for a newspaper that no
longer exists in New Haven - The Allen County Times. Yes, there is a
newspaper by that name now, but it has absolutely no connection to the
old newspaper.
One of the previous publishers of that newspaper is still alive. E-mail
me privately and I will give you his name and phone number. He may know
someone you can talk to about these families.
As far as your question about the indeces goes, I don't know, but I
suggest you make contact with the genealogical society at the ACPL. If
anyone knows the answer to that question, they do.
The link to the library is:
http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/
but to go directly to the genealogy room, go to:
http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy/genealogy.html
In the left frame are links to Allen County searchable data bases. I've
never used them, because my family is NOT from here -- just me, my
parents, brothers and sisters and a couple of cousins. Heh. We all came
here from Illinois.
Failing all that, Curt Witcher's e-mail address (he may kill me) is:
Cwitcher(a)acpl.lib.in.us
He or someone will know.
Come to think of it, I just realized that my sister-in-law is the new
deputy chief recorder for the county. HAH! But I don't want HER to kill
me. I will ask her that question about the records, however.

Harry, I don't have any of your names, in fact, I don't have a single
Allen County ancestor but I live here. <G>
I use the library all the time and I don't believe that the deed indexes
we have go that far forward. Hopefully, someone else will know the
answer.
