Sharon, if you have some specific things that you'd like me to look for
let me know as I live in Fort Wayne and could check the city directories
for you. I'd need exact name and dates that you think they might have
been here i.e. owned dairy when? in orphanage when? (it would probably
be listed in the city directory.)

Judy, I can check for marriage info if you don't have their marriage
dates.
As an aside, I was just in Spencerville today. They have a pickle
factory (Schlers) and we went out to their store.<G>
Let me know what you want me to check and an idea of what dates I'm
looking for. By the way, I used to work with a Beverly VanZile who was
from Spencerville. That was back in the '50s.

Hello,
This is my first post to this list.
I am looking for information on the VanZile family from the Spencerville
area. Of particular interest to me is the Daniel VanZile family.
Daniel was married to Minerva Britt. They were my gr-gr-grandparents.
All I have on them is their names, which I got from their son's obituary
(Samuel G. VanZile).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello to all,
I am trying to research some of my family that lived in Allen County. The
name is COLVIN. Here is what I know and what family has told.
My Great Great Great Grandfather John R. Colvin was born Sept. 19, 1820 in OH
he married Mary Ann Pyle in Rush Co. IN, in 1848 both were buried in the
Lindenwood Cemetary. John in 1876 and Mary Ann in 1912.
They had 9 children:
William b. 1843 in Indiana d. Feb 13 1911 and is buried in Lindenwood. He
married 3 times, 1st to Mary Ann Clark 2nd to Mary E. Zimendorf and 3rd to
Anna Beach.
Henry Colvin (my line) b. Sept 15 1845 in Madison Co., IN d. 1934 in
Jefferson Co., IN. married Hannah Elizabeth Ellsworth.
Jesse b. 1847 in Indiana d. aft 1870
David b. 1850 in Howard Co., IN d. bef 1860
Lydia b. Aug 1851 In IN d. aft 1900 married James Fulmer
Albert b. Feb 1861 in IN d. May 02 1886 in Whitley Co. buried in
Lindenwood
married Etta Kreamer
Elbert b. Feb 1861 d. Oct 11 1944 in Whitley Co., buried in Lindenwood
married to Abrigail M. Pratt
Joseph b. May 10 1863 in Ft. Wayne d. Apr 25 1943 in Columbia City buried
in Lindenwood married Nellie J. unknown and Clara Ella Clapsattle
Catherine b. Oct 1865 in Whitley Co., IN Married George Coolman in Allen
Co., on Oct 8 1881 died aft 1912
The above Henry and Elizabeth had 6 children:
Laura Arvilla b. 10-25-1870 in IN D. Apr 26 1933 married J. W. Cain
Mary Ettie b. Sept 04 1872 d. Aug 25 1873
Martha Permetta b. 12-2-1874 d. 9-2-1876
Charles Henry b. 8-17-1876 in Decatur, IN married 1st Jennie M. Edinger
2nd Maude Fracis Martz on 10-18-1910 in Ft. Wayne
Elsie Jane b. 1-5-1880 in IN d. 9-21-1880
Hattie Idella b. 3-24-1884 inIN d. 10-4-1923 in Grand Rapids, MI married
Clarence Estelle
Charles and Maude had 5 children:
Fannie Ideall b 7-23-1911 in Continental, OH
John E. b. 11-28-1913 in Defiance, OH
Harvey b. 7-13-1915 in Ft. Wayne d. 7-13-1915 in Ft. Wayne buried in
Lindenwood
Charles Henry b. 5-19-1918 in Ft. Wayne
Harold Eugene b. 10-25-1920 inLima, OH
Family history is that Charles either owned or worked at a livery stable there
in Ft. Wayne for some time. Never have been able to locate that stable. Not
sure if this was before 1911 or after 1915. Also that at one point due to
family problem Maude put Fannie into a Orphange (unknown name or orphange or
whether or not records are availiable) there in Ft. Wayne (This was after she
had order Charles out of her life. And since Fannie was the apple of her
daddy's eye she did not want Fannie around). She was about 8 years old when
this happen and her grandmother got her out of the orphange (by telling a lie)
when she was 12 years old. I have acess to a picture of Fannie and another
girl (unknown name) that was her friend when she was in the orphange. I also
know that the Joseph above was Charles's Uncle and that the family did spend
some time visiting with him in the early 30"s and mid 40"s. He was said to
have owned a Dairy there in Ft. Wayne. Have not been able to verify that.
But the family said that he was well to do. I have visited some of the
family plots in Lindenwood and recieved some information from the cemetary but
this only created more questions. If any of this is familiar to anyone else
would love to hear from you. Sorry this is so long.

Deborah, I don't know anything about those names. I did check the
current phone directory. There are no GEISS names at all but a ton of
SCHERERs.
Do you have these listed on the Allen County USGenWeb page? (Can't
remember the all).

Hi All Allen Co Researchers & Deborah,
I am not a Scherer researcher but I went to school
with Bev Scherer from Hoagland. She was a gr-granddaughter
of David Charles McKeeman as I am too. Her father was
Delbert Scherer. Delbert was the son of Verdy Scherer
and Marguerite Mercer. Marguerite Mercer was the daughter
of Nancy McKeeman and Robert Mercer.
I have another Scherer connection:
Descendants of Charles SHERER
Generation No. 1
1. CHARLES1 SHERER was born 1896 in Indiana. He married VERBA E. MERCER,
daughter of ROBERT MERCER and NANCY MCKEEMAN.
Children of CHARLES SHERER and VERBA MERCER are:
i. PEARL2 SCHERER.
ii. MAY SCHERER.
iii. ALBERTA SCHERER.
iv. RUTH SCHERER.
That is not much but something on the Scherers. These are from Madison Twp
around Hoagland.
I am researching the MCKEEMAN and MCCONAGHY families from the same area.

Thought I would post a note to get our Allen County list going. Welcome
to those of you who have subscribed. Pass the word along.
I live in Fort Wayne and would be willing to look for obits for your
Allen County ancestors. If there are others who live here maybe you
would be willing to do look-ups too. I'll try it until I'm overwhelmed
with requests.

Well, there are at least a couple of us.
I am searching for additional information on the family that adopted my
grandmother, Lelah Miller, about 1903 from the Allen County Orphans Home.
She was adopted by Louis J. (Jacob, I think) GEISS and Mary Elizabeth
CORDELL BROWN GEISS. Louis was the son of Jacob and Julia SCHERER GEISS.
Family lore has that Louis was on the board of the Orphans Home. He either
managed or owned (again, family lore) the Queen and Alaska Coal Companies
in Ft. Wayne. Louis and Mary Elizabeth changed Lelah's birth name to Buena
Lucille GEISS.
I am interested in other members of the GEISS, CORDELL and SCHERER
families. I do know that Louis had one sister, Laura who married John
MITCHELL in Ft. Wayne. Julia SCHERER GEISS and Mary Elizabeth CORDELL
GEISS are buried under the same headstone with Laura buried right near in
Lindenwood Cemetery.
Can anyone fill in some gaps in the SCHERER family? In the GEISS family,
any additional members being researched? Do any of these names sound
familiar to anyone? I am willing to share information.
