WELDON L. NUSSBAUM
Well-known Adams County resident Weldon L. Nussbaum, 60, route 1, Monroe, died at 11:18
a.m. Thursday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, of a heart attack after surgery on March
26.
He was a lifetime resident of the county, having been born on August 9, 1930 to Henry
and Rosella Beer Nussbaum. His father is deceased; his mother lives in Berne. He married
Gladys Zurcher on December 17, 1949 and she also survives.
He was a salesman for Zurcher's Tire in Monroe for over 38 years; a former member
and chief of the Monroe Fire Department; and one of the organizers and members of the
Monroe Rescue Squad, operated by the Monroe fireman.
He was a longtime member of Cross United Church of Christ in Berne, a deacon, a former
Sunday School superintendent, and a former deacon.
Other survivors are a son, Randal L. Nussbaum, Berne; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry
(Linda) Alberson, Berne and Mrs. Chris (Valeria) Liechty, route 6, Decatur; two brothers,
James and Curtis Nussbaum, both of Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Emerson (Corrine) Lehman,
route 2, Berne; and eight grandchildren. A brother, Roger Nussbaum and a grandson are
deceased.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Sunday in Cross United Church of Christ, Dr. William
Huenemann officiating. Burial will be in MRE Cemetery, Berne. Visiting hours at
Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne, are 2-9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Sunday. There is also visitation from 1-2 p.m. Sunday in the church. Preferred memorials
are to the church or to Tenwick Hospital in the African nation of Kenya.
