DONALD CONRAD DIES FRIDAY
Two-Year-Old Son of Mrs. J. L. Conrad Victim
Death struck for the second time in a few weeks in a local family with the death early
Friday of Donald Curtis Conrad, aged two, son of Mrs. J. L. Conrad of this place. The
child, a very attractive youngster, died at 8 o'clock at the James Whitcomb Riley
hospital in Indianapolis. The child's father, Rev. J. L. Conrad, died at the Irene
Byron sanitarium March 28.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2
o'clock at the Cross Reformed church. Burial was in the Magley cemetery, beside his
father.
Donald's death was due to tubercular meningitis. His illness was first noticed
more than a year ago when he failed to walk normally. The following October he was taken
to Indianapolis for treatment and he was placed in a cast from his hips to his toes.
Again in January, he was admitted to the hospital for observation and treatment. His cast
was changed and after a few days he was brought home. About 4 weeks ago, he was admitted
to the institution for the third time. It was not until last Tuesday morning that his
condition became very serious and his mother was called. Mrs. Conrad was with him almost
constantly from that time until his death.
Donald was born Aug. 15, 1933, in Berne, bringing his age to 2 years, 9 months and 29
days. He was the youngest son of Rev. J. L. and Elsie Bautz Conrad. He is survived by
the sorrowing mother and the following brothers and sisters: Helen, 14, Louis, 11,
Barbara Jean, 9 and Lilah Ann, 4. His paternal grandfather and step-grandmother live at
Magley.
