MOTHER OF 9 CHILDREN BURIED TODAY
Mrs. Peter Hilty, 44, Dies Saturday North of Berne
Mrs. Emma Hilty, 44, wife of Peter Hilty, died at her home along Federal Road 27, three
and one-half miles north of Berne, at 8 o'clock Saturday morning. Mrs. Hilty had been
sick several days with influenza and complications, following the birth of a still-born
child on Jan. 21.
The funeral was held at 9 o'clock this morning at the home, and burial was made in
the Schwartz cemetery three miles north of Berne.
Mrs. Hilty, nee Emma Schwartz, was born on the Joseph A. Schwartz farm, north of Berne,
April 28, 1892, a daughter of Joseph A. and Lydia Burkhalter Schwartz. She was married to
Peter Hilty November 27, 1919.
Surviving are the husband and the following children: Lydia and Joseph, twins, aged
16; Anna, 14; Daniel, 13; Levi, 12; Menno, 11; Mary, 9; Elma, 5; Emma, 35. Two
children are deceased.
The parents and the following brothers and sisters survive: John Schwartz, Marshall
County, Ind.; Joseph, north of Berne; Mrs. Joseph Hilty, Adam and Daniel Schwartz, Mrs.
Chris Hilty, all of north of town; Samuel Schwartz, Monroe township; David L. Schwartz,
north of Berne; and Noah and Menno Schwartz at home. Two sisters, Mary and Sarah,
preceded.
Mrs. Hilty was a member of the Amish church.
