Lorena S. Thieme, 78, rural Decatur, died at home at 10:46 a.m. Thursday. She was born on
May 29, 1929, in Van Wert, Ohio, to Oscar and Laura Merkle Germann. She married Delmer F.
Thieme on April 7, 1951; he survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Decatur, and was a
Sunday School teacher for many years and a member of the Ladies' Society. She was also
a member of the Merry Mixers Home Economics Club and a volunteer and an organist at the
nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community for many years.
Other survivors are a son, Ronald L. Thieme of Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. Lynn
(Sandra) Selking of rural Decatur, Mrs. Tom (Laurie) Odle of Decatur, and Mrs. Bill
(Debra) Brenneman of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. Herbert (Betty) Bauer of Van Wert; a
brother, Kenneth R. Germann of Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A brother is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial
in the church cemetery. Visiting hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Sunday in Zwick and
Jahn Funeral Home and 9-10 a.m. Monday in the church. Preferred memorials are to the
church's building fund, to St. Peter-Immanuel Lutheran School, to the Amytrophic
Lateral Sclerosis Society of Indiana, or to the donor's choice.
