Rev. James M. Patch, 72
Rev. James M. Patch, 72, of Lexington, Ky., died at 12:17 p.m. Friday at the Veteran
Administration Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.
Born to H. Clarence and Martha M. (Alderton) Patch on Sept. 20, 1935, he married Catherine
I. Miller on Nov. 12, 1976, in Wells County. She survives him.
A 1953 graduate of Jefferson Township High School, he worked as a farmer for Yager farm, a
truck driver for PTI & Sam Tanksly, for CTS in Berne for 20 years, for Peyton?s
Northern in Bluffton, and for Bettendorf Stanford in Salem, Ill. He started studying
ministry in 1992. His first church was in Keystone in 1997. Then he ministered in the
Union Chapel in Decatur in 1999, retiring in 2006 when he moved to Lexington, Ky. He
ministered for 1 1/2 years in Penny?s Chapel (UMC). He also served in the U.S. Army in
Europe. He was a member of Geneva Masonic Lodge #621 and the Decatur American Legion Post
#43. He attended High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie.
Other surviving relatives include two daughters, Vera E. Fights of Lexington, Ky., and
Vickie L. Camron of Berne; three stepsons, Daniel C. (Sarah) Haynes of Hartford City,
Charles E. (Marta) Haynes of Portland and William E. Haynes of Hartford City; one
stepdaughter, Marjorie A. (Ken) Dawson of Geneva; two brothers, Howard Patch of Jay City
and Jesse Patch of Decatur; one sister, Ruth Habegger of Berne; six grandchildren; nine
step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren and one foster
daughter.
He was preceded in death by one brother Francis Patch.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in
Geneva. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Wednesday. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva. Rev, James Bontrager will
officiate.
Preferred memorials are to the church of the donor?s choice.
