Mrs. Clara Edgell Is Taken By Death
Funeral Services To Be Wednesday
Mrs. Clara Edgell, 78, who resided in St. Mary's township, two miles northeast of
Pleasant Mills, died at 10:50 a.m. Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Homer Maloney,
one mile north of Bobo, following an illness of 18 months.
Born in Chillicothe, O., March 8, 1878, she was a daughter of John and Virginia
Moss-Smitley. She was married to Milton U. Edgell April 30, 1899. Mr. Edgell preceded
her in death Feb. 29, 1954. The family formerly resided in Blue Creek Township, moving to
St. Mary's township in 1918.
Mrs. Edgell was a member of the Mt. Hope Nazarene church.
Surviving are six sons, Jesse E. of Monroe, Harley of Van Wert, O., Harry and Russel of
Decatur route 3, Fred of Berne and Vernon of Kingsport, Tenn.; three daughters, Mrs. Brice
Roop of Decatur, Mrs. Homer Maloney of Decatur route 3, and Mrs. Otto Kirchner of Fort
Wayne; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roley and Floyd Smitley,
both of Decatur, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Collins of McMinville, Ore., and Mrs. William
Speakman of New Holland, O. Three sons and one daughter are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Hope Nazarene church, the
Rev. L. J. Lykins officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. Friends may call at
the Zwick funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening until noon Wednesday, when the
body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of the services.
