BERTHA L. LANDIS
Bertha L. Landis, 93, former resident of Monroe, died at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday at her
Swiss Village residence following an extended illness.
A homemaker, member of the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren and member of the
church's women's fellowship, she was born in Kirkland Township on December 21,
1895 to Peter and Mary Weyrick Fugate. She married Earl Landis on December 25, 1913; he
died in April 1968. Also deceased are two sons, Homer and Leonard, one brother, Clyde,
and two grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Marie) Mitchel and Ruth Landis, both of
Decatur; six sons, Harvey, Arthur, Willard, all of Decatur, Herman and Cleo, both of
Columbia City and Clifford, Monroe; 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, Rev. Norman
Replogle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Calling hours are 2-5 p.m.
and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Zwick-Sefton & Jahn Funeral Home and at the church one hour
prior to services. Preferred memorials are to the Pleasant Dale Church Building Fund.
