Frederick C. Bittner Jr., 78, rural Decatur, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday at home after a
long illness.
He was born on April 1, 1930, in Decatur to Frederick C. and Lucille Miller Bittner Sr.
He married Patricia J. Abbott on July 31, 1954; she survives.
He was a Union Township farmer for many years, drove a bus for the North Adams Schools
for 24 years, and also worked for Fruehauf Corp. in Fort Wayne and Central Soya and
Fleetwood Enterprises, both in Decatur. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean
War.
Mr. Bittner was active in Cornerstone Community Church of Decatur.
Other survivors are a daughter, Darleen K. Bittner of Decatur; five sons, John Bittner
of Glen Burnie, Maryland; Steven, Thomas, and James Bittner, all of Decatur; and Mark
Bittner of Convoy, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. A granddaughter is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Cornerstone Community Church,
with burial in Decatur Cemetery.
Visiting hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3:30-7 p.m. Sunday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home
and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday in the church. Preferred memorials are to the church.
