Eugene R. Hitchcock, 67, route 7, Decatur, died suddenly at 4 p.m Sunday (Arizona time)
in Flagstaff, Arizona, while on vacation.
He was born on October 26, 1922 in Wyatt, Ohio to Clyde and Ida Lyons Hitchcock and
married Joan Bodle on August 31, 1945. She survives.
He retired in 1986 as a line crew supervisor for Indiana Michigan Power after a 41 year
career. He was a veteran of the Army in World War II, a member of Adams Post 43 of the
American Legion, and a member of Decatur Moose Lodge 1311.
Other survivors are three sons, David Hitchcock, 522 St. Mary St.; William Hitchcock,
Monroe; James Hitchcock, 1203 N. Second St.; two daughters, Karen Hitchcock, Ossian, and
Mrs. Thomas (Nancy) Ross, route 5, Decatur; four sisters, Juanita Carpenter, 716 Elm St.;
Mrs. Earl (Doris) Rolston, 515 Mercer Ave., Mrs. Richard (Joan) Boring, Willshire, Ohio;
and Pat Anderson, Decatur; and 10 grandchildren. Preceding in death were a sister, Violet;
two daughters, Deanne and Cathie; and three brothers, Clarence, Floyd and Frank
Hitchcock.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday in Haggard and Armes Funeral Home, Rev. Brian
White officiating. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery, east of Decatur on the
Indiana-Ohio state line. Pallbearers will be Don Smith, Al Bowen, Tim Zeser, and L. C.
"Binb" Gallogly. Honary pallbearers will be Sam Bacon, Charles McFarren, Norm
Wenger, Don Windmiller, Marvin Hack, and Gene Mitch.
Visiting hours at the funeral home are 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a
Moose memorial service at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
