Vaughn D. Reinhart, 55, Monroe, died at 5:28 a.m. Tuesday at home of amytrophic
lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was born November 23, 1950, in Bluffton
to Richard W. and Phyllis J. Barger Reinhart, who are deceased. He married Gayla M. Key on
October 13, 1979; she survives. He worked at the former General Electric Co. plant in
Decatur for 19 years and later worked for the Bendix Corp. before retiring last year. He
was a member of Monroe United Brethren Church, where he was on the administrative board
and was a lay delegate. He had attended International Business College in Fort Wayne, was
a leader of Boy Scout Troop 72 in Monroe, and was a member of the St. Marys-Blue Creek
Conservation Club. During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army in 1972. He also
served in the U.S. Air Force in Iraq in 2004. Other survivors are two sons, Jeremy S. and
Stephen P. Reinhart of Monroe, and two sisters, Mrs. Randy (Patti J.) Johnston of
Monroeville and Mrs. Doug (Car!
ol A.) Gaskill of Van Wert, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in
Cornerstone Church, Decatur, with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
Visiting hours are 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home and 9-10 a.m.
Friday in the church. Preferred memorials are to Boy Scout Troop 72, the American Legion
or the Fallen Hero Lost Wishes Foundation.
