I find I have Leander Johnson in my files md to Elizabeth Whitright....obviously should
have been Harden and I've made the corrections. However I have a different marriage
date than you stated from Van Wert County.
name: Leander Johnson
event: Marriage March 21, 1878
event place (standardized): Van Wert, Ohio, United States
age: 21
estimated birth year: 1857
spouse: Elizabeth Whitright
spouse's age: 19
spouse's estimated birth year: 1859
digital folder number: 004017435
(From Family Search)
I wish I could say I have her parents listed in my files, but I'm sorry I do not.
I also find I have the Jane Ross Burrell & husband & 3 children in my files, but
no Elizabeth there either.
I'm sorry I wasn't of any help, just wanted to mention the fact that I recognize
these names! I hope someone is able to help you!

Jean,
Have you checked Elizabeth's marriage records to see if her father is named on either
one of them?

Dear Berne Library,
Thank you for the clarification on the courthouses in Adams County.
Since several people on the Adams County Rootsweb list have offered their
suggestion on finding Elizabeth Harden's parents, listed below is my
current research.
Elizabeth Ann Harden/Hardin was born 12 Feb 1854 in Indiana, very likely
Adams County and perhaps in Union Township.
1860 Union Township, Adams County census
Elizabeth Harden is enumerated in the household of Erastus LINCOLN with
his wife Mary Ann and their children. Elizabeth is 6 years old. The Lincoln
family live several doors away from William Harden.
1870
Elizabeth is still enumerated in the Lincoln household, age 16. I also
researched Erastus Lincoln and found that his wife Mary Ann is a sister of
Jane Ross Harden wife of William.
1870
Living next door is the family of William Harden. William Harden is 44
and Jane Ross Burrell Harden is 35.
Enumerated in the Harden home is a farm laborer, Eli WHITRIGHT, age 22 [my
g-grandfather].
22 Nov 1870 Elias Whitright and Elizabeth Harden marry in Adams County, IN.
They move to Tully, Van Wert County, Ohio, buy property and have three
sons. 18 Feb 1877 Elias Whitright dies of consumption. He is buried in
Monroeville, Allen County, IN. where he grew up and where his parents are living.
Elizabeth marries second to Leander Johnson a widower, on 18 Feb 1878.
Yes, on Elias Whitright's death date. They have several children together.
28 Jun 1903 Elizabeth Ann Harden Whitright Johnson died in Union Township,
Adams Co., IN. During her illness she lived in Union Township. She is
buried in Convoy, Van Wert, OH. Her obituary does not name her parents.
Obituary 5 Jul 1903 Monroeville Breeze
Mrs. Leander Johnson, a well known citizen of Union Township, Adams
County, died Sunday morning at 5 o'clock after a lingering illness of over a
year. The funeral was held Tuesday at the Mentzer M.E. Church in Van Wert
County, Ohio The services were conducted by the U.B. pastor, Rev. Ryan after
which the remains were interned in the cemetery near the church. Mentzer
Cemetery.
Record of Death # 8156 Decatur, Adams County, Indiana
Recorded in Book H-22, Page 25 Parents on death record: Elizabeth A. and
______ Hardin. No father listed.
At first I had thought that Elizabeth was a daughter of William Harden and
Jane Burrell Harden but after obtaining copies of both of their obituaries
and a copy of William Harden's will, there was never a mention of
Elizabeth Harden as being a daughter or heir.
I have several photos of Elizabeth with her children. She was petit woman
with a pretty face.
Without a birth record, which I think finding one is unlikely, I continue
to search.
I will check funeral homes in Union and in Van Wert, OH.
I have also followed William Harden through census records and a brother
of William, Isaiah who lived in Union in the 1850 census. Possible father's
of Elizabeth? Why was she not living with her parents as a child?
Thank you for reading!
Jean

There would not be another death record. The one listed at the Adams Co.
courthouse would be the only one. Also, there is no courthouse for Union
Twp. Each county in Indiana has only one courthouse that is located in the
county seat, in this case Decatur, IN. This county courthouse serves all
the townships. Adams Co. has 12 townships which this county courthouse
serves. I know this is disappointing, but have you tried searching the
censuses? There is a chance she would be shown living with her parents.

Subject: [INADAMS] Death Record Question - Elizabeth Ann Harden
Hello,
Elizabeth Ann Harden Whitright Johnson died in Union Township, Adams
County
on 28 Jun 1903. Her death is recorded in the Adams County Courthouse.
Record of Death # 8156 Decatur, Adams County, Indiana Recorded in Book
H-22, Page 25
Her mother is listed as Elizabeth Ann and her father's first name is left
blank, surname Hardin. The clerk at the Adams County Courthouse has been
amazingly helpful, checking the death record on two occasions and
confirming
that indeed the father's name is not given.
My question is, would there be another death record in Union Township?
Hopefully the fathers name might be on another death record. Also, I have
tried to find an address for Union's courthouse but have not been
successful.
I am grateful for any suggestions as without her fathers name I have not
been able to identify Elizabeth's parents.
