John W Burkhart
John W. Burkhart, 64, rural Monroe, died suddenly at 6:52 p.m. Saturday in Cameron
Hospital, Angola, In.
He was born on November 3, 1933 in Van Wert, Ohio, to Charles and Helen Stewart
Burkhart. He married Ardola Parrish on May 2, 1956; she survives.
He was a retired farmer and an active member of Bethel Brethren Church of Berne,
where he was the financial secretary, a trustee, and a Sunday School teacher. He was also
a member of the Adams County Farm Bureau board, a trustee of Mt. Hope Cemetery of rural
Berne, and a sawyer at the Pioneer Village on the Indiana Fair Grounds for 15 years an at
the Covered Bridge Festival at Mathews, Indiana.
He served in the U. S. Army's Third Infantry Division as a member of the Honor
Guard in Washington, D.C.
Other survivors are a son, Linn W. Burkhart, Moroe; two daughters, Mrs. William
(Margaret) Barge, Angola, and Mrs. Greg (Kathy D.) Biggers, Muncie; two brothers, Roger W.
and Melvin L. Burkhart, both of Decatur; a sister, Pat Lenhart, Woodland Hills,
California; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bethel Brethren Church with burial in
Mt. Hope Cemetery, including military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43.
Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m. today, 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and 1 to 2 p;m.
Wednesday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church's youth group.
Funeral arrangements are by Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.
