WILBUR L. WANNER
Rev. Wilbur L. Wanner, 63, died Wednesday in Caylor-Nickel Medical Center, Bluffton.
He was born in Hartford Township on May 15, 1930 to Ezra and Elta Winteregg Wanner.
He became an ordained minister in 1956 after graduating from Fort Wayne Bible College
and was pastor of churches in Tennessee before becoming a missionary in the African nation
of Sierra Leone from 1957-66. He was a member of West Missionary Church, near Berne.
Surviving are two sons, Leon Wanner, Ossian and John Wanner, Berne; three daughters,
Mrs. Kent (Jeanne) Frank, Berne; Sandra Wanner, Kalamazoo, Michigan; and Mrs. Douglas
(Mary) Gentry, South Bend; one brother, Kenneth Wanner, rural Geneva; three sisters,
Mildred Wanner, Edgewater, Florida; Mrs. Norman (Vera) Kistler, Lima, Ohio; and Pauline
Wanner, Berne; and nine grandchildren. A daughter, Rebecca Wanner, and a brother,
Clarence Wanner, are deceased.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in West Missionary Church, Rev. Max
Wanner, a nephew of Rev. Wanner, officiating. Burial will be in MRE Cemetery, Berne.
There will be no visitation. Preferred memorials are to the Hospice of Indiana. Funeral
arrangements are by Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne.
