RICHARD HESS
Richard L. Hess, 63, of 532 N. Third St., well-known General Electric employe, died at
6:30 p.m. Saturday in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, where he had been a patient for the
past nine weeks.
A lifelong resident of Adams County, he was born December 18, 1915 the son of Peter and
Mary Kohne-Hess and was married to Kathryn Ellenberger of Berne, October 18, 1946.
Mr. Hess was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Fourth
Degree Knights of Columbus, Adams Post 43, American Legion and the G. E. Quarter Century
Club.
A veteran of World War II, he was a past grand knight and highly active in affairs of
the local Knights of Columbus council.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, Patrick R. Hess at home; three daughters, Mrs.
Harold (Vicki J.) Meyer of Decatur; Barbara Underwood of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and Mrs. Kerry
(Margo) Holt of Nashville, Tenn.; five brothers, Herbert J., Robert H., and Norbert A.
Hess, all of Decatur, Edwin F. of Fort Wayne and James H. Hess of Huntsville, Ala.; one
sister, Mrs. James (Eileen) Bogner of Lake Forest, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
One brother, Donald and one grandson are deceased.
Private funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Gillig-Doan &
Sefton, with Father John E. Gillig officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
A family Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated later this week.
Friends may call from 2 until 5 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. today. Preferred memorials are
to the St. Mary's Parish Improvement Fund or the Adams County Heart Association.
