CECIL HARVEY DIES TUESDAY
Cecil Harvey, 81, well-known Root township farmer, died at 10:23 p.m. Tuesday at the
Adams County Memorial Hospital. He had been ill the past year and in critical condition
the past week.
Born September 2, 1893 in Clinton County, Indiana, Mr. Harvey was a retired farmer who
formerly worked for the Holland Sugar Beet Co., and was once a field man for Stokley
Canning Co. A 50-year member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, he was for many
years a precinct committeeman in East Root and a trustee on the Decatur Cemetery Board.
The son of James C. and Zora Gregg Harvey, he was married to Mary Barkley, who died in
January of 1919; his second wife, Bertha Drummond, died August 5, 1959.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Gale (Mable) Cook of route 6, Decatur; Mrs.
Robert (Gladys) Braden of route 4, Decatur; Mrs. Morris (Naomi) Kruekeberg of route 4,
and Mrs. Joshua (Betty) Zurcher of Monroe; five sons, Bryce Harvey of Decatur, Calvin
Harvey of route 2, Avilla; William Harvey of route 5, Decatur; Robert Harvey of route 1,
Decatur; and Richard Harvey of Decatur; one brother, Harold Harvey of Decatur; three
half-sisters, Mary Harvey of Bluffton; Mrs. John (Olive) Steele of West Lafayette; and
Mrs. Willis (Evelyn) Bond of Wakefield, O.; two half-brothers, Martin Harvey of Kirklin
(sic), Ind. and John Harvey of Mendon, Mich.; 30 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. Two daughters, one half-brother and two grandchildren preceded Mr.
Harvey in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mark's United Methodist
Church, Rev. Fuhrman Miller in charge, and burial will be in Decatur cemetery. Friends
may call at the Winteregg-Linn & Haggard funeral home after 7 o'clock tonight
until 11 a.m. Friday, and at the church from 12 noon Friday until time of services.
Preferred memorials are to the St. Mark's United Methodist church memorial fund.
