Richard O. "Sonny" Manley, 74, Decatur, died at 7:32 a.m. Wednesday in Adams
County Memorial Hospital after being in failing health for six years.
He was born on December 21, 1924, in Decatur to Chancy O. and Mary M. Julian Manley and
married Mildred Knittle on February 14, 1953; she survives.
He retired in 1993 after a 35 year career at Gilpin Inc of Decatur, working as a welder.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 1311. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6236, and American
Legion, Post 43 --- al in Decatur. During World War II, he served with the U. S. Army in
Europe.
Other survivors are three sons, Michael O. Manley, of Van Wert, Ohio; Timothy V. Manley
of Decatur; and Marvin L. Manley of Fort Wayne; four daughters, Patricia Bleeke of rural
Decatur; Mrs. Jesse (Cindy) Mendez of Decatur; Mrs. Roger (Peggy) Geimer of Akley,
Minnesota; and Mrs. David (Kathy) Brown of Monroe; six sisters, Edna Manley of Berne;
Mildred Wolfe of Pleasant Mills; Mable Miller of Willshire, Ohio; Mrs. James (Velma)
Penrod of Bluffton; Lois Agner of Leipsic, Ohio; and Mrs. Leonard (Marcile) King of rural
Decatur; three brothers: H. Glen Manley, Kenneth Manley, and Lester Manley, all of rural
Decatur; 29 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. A son and three sisters are
deceassed.
Funeral services wil be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home.
Decatur, with burial in Tricker Cemetery, rural Adams County, including a graveside
military memorial service by the color guard from American Legion, Post 43.
Visiting hours are from 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, with
Moose memorial service at 8 p.m. Friday. The body will be in state from 10 to 11 a.m.
Saturday in Porter Auditorium at Woodcrest Retirement Community. Preferred memorials are
to the Timothy Manley Trust.
