Jack M. Weldy, 71, Decatur, died at 9:59 a.m. Saturday in the U.S. Department of
Veterans' Affairs Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born on March 15, 1930 in Adams County to Russell E. and Adah J. Click Weldy and
married Josephine V. Sheets on July 3, 1949; she survives.
He retired in 1987 as a conductor after more than 30 years of service with the Penn
Central Railroad, Conrail and Amtrak. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars and a past commander of Decatur VFW Post 6236. During World War II he served in the
U.S. Army.
Other survivors are four sons, Russell E. Weldy, Jack M. Weldy, Jr., and Lloyd E.
Weldy, all of Decatur, and Michael V. Weldy of Geneva; two daughters, Mrs Neil (Wauneta A.
"Otis") Kegerreis of Pennville (sic; only 1 daughter named); two sisters, Mrs
Von (Marjory G.) Terrell of Huntington and Mrs. Donald A. (Wauneta A.) Smith of Van Wert,
Ohio; a brother, Roy E. Shoaf of Anderson; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A sister, a grandson, and a great-grandson are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home,
Decatur, with burial in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, rural Decatur, including military graveside
rites by the color guard from American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.
Visiting hours are 6-8 p.m. today.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
