GOLDIE ROOP TAKEN BY DEATH
Mrs. Goldie Roop, 74, of route 1, seven miles north of Decatur, widow of Harley J.
Roop, died at 4 a.m. this morning at the Adams county memorial hospital where she had been
hospitalized the past three weeks. Death was unexpected. She was the last member of a
family of 12 children.
Born in Jay county on August 29, 1896, she was a daughter of George and Eleanore
Chaney-Butcher, and married Harley J. Roop on January 2, 1917.
Mrs. Roop was a member of the St. Mark's United Methoidst church and the American
Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Eleanore)
Bieberich of route 6; Mrs. William (Pauline) Roughia, of route 1, Ossian; two sons,
Harley J. Roop, Jr., of route 1, Lawrence E. Roop of Hoagland, 11 grandchildren, and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mark's United
Methodist church, with Rev. Fuhrman Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur
cemetery. Friends may call at the Zwick funeral home from 7 p.m. Thursday until 9 p.m.
Friday and from 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church until time of the services at the
church.
