MRS. LAWRENCE BEITLER IS DEAD AT MONROE HOME
Well Known Woman Dies From Heart Attack; Rites Friday
Mrs. Susan Burke Gerber Beitler, 74, wife of Lawrence Beitler of Monroe, died suddenly
at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday evening at her home from a heart attack. She had been in her
usual health previously. Mrs. Beitler was well known in Berne.
Mrs. Beitler was born in Switzerland on April 23, 1867, a daughter of John and
Elizabeth Hofstetter Burke,. She was married to Christ Gerber early in life. He died in
1916 and in 1918 she was married to Lawrence Beitler. They have lived in Monroe ever
since, or for the last 23 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carrie Reusser, widow of Godfrey Reusser of Vera Cruz.
A brother, John Burke of Blue Creek township also survives. Four sisters are deceased.
They are Mrs. Lizzie Affolder, Mrs. Mary Herron, Mrs. Rosa Schwartz, and Caroline. Mrs.
Schwartz died June 10 of this year.
The following step-children survive: Andrew Gerber, Laporte; Chris Gerber, Gary;
Alice DeLape, Pasadena, Calif.; Catherine and Margaret Peck, both of Chicago; Mrs. Viola
Baumgartner, east of Berne; Mrs. Lovina Burke, also east of Berne; Mrs. Della Sours,
Linn Grove; Mrs. Mary Smith, Decatur; Mrs. Lillie Gehm, Celina; Harry Beitler, Monroe
and Clarence Beitler. Seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of
step-grandchildren survive.
Mrs. Beitler was a member of the Monroe Friends church. The body was brought to the
Yager mortuary here and will be taken to the home at Monroe this evening. The funeral
will be held Friday morning at 9:15 o'clock at the home and at 9:30 at the Friends
church. Rev. Susie Sproul and Rev. Vernon Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Spring
Hill cemetery.
