Merrill E. Johnson Wednesday, June 18, 1980
Merrill E. Johnson, 63, 1009 West Washington St., an employee of the Penn Central and
later the Conrail railroad company for 31 years before retiring in 1976, was dead on
arrival at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital. He suffered a heart
attack at his home. He attended the Decatur Missionary Church.
Born in Celina, Ohio, on December 25, 1916, he was the son of Frank and Mary
Ritter-Johnson, and was married on Feb. 16, 1946, to Mary E. Summers, who survives. He
was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance and Ways and was a veteran of W W II,
serving in the Army Infantry. Also surviving are three children, Daniel, with the U.S.
Marine Corps in Boston, Mass.; Ruth Buettner, Decatur; Steven route 6, Decatur; one
sister, Mrs. Carlos (Elizabeth) Jacobs, Wichita, Kan., three brothers, John H., route 3,
Decatur; Robert W., Decatur; and William T. Johnson of Texas; and eight grandchildren.
One brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Zwick Funeral Home, with
Rev. Floyd Vieth officiating. Burial will be in the Ray Cemetery. Friends may call at
the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday. Preferred memorial are to the Decatur Missionary
Church.
