Gerald W. Springer, 81, formerly of rural Decatur and a lifelong Adams County resident,
died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at The Village of Heritage nursing home in Monroeville.
He was born on November 23, 1928, in Adams County to Lawrence and Cleo DeBolt Springer.
He married Marcella M. Walters on January 14, 1950, in Adams County; she died on June 8,
2007.
Gerald retired from E. W. Bohren Transport at Woodburn in 1983 as a truck driver and
then worked for Prestress Services of rural Decatur as a truck driver for several years.
He was a member of American Legion Post 43 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1311, both in
Decatur, and was a member of Teamsters Local 114. Gerald also enjoyed farming, cutting
wood, and gardening.
He served his country from 1947-49 in the United States Navy.
Surviving are one son, Larry Springer of Monroe; two daughters, Linda Emenhiser and
Mrs. Victor (Jennifer) Kable of Decatur; two sisters, Marjorie Conrad of Decatur and
Patricia Hackman of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
One son, Jeffrey Springer, and one grandson, Matthew Springer, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home,
Decatur, with Rev. Ernie Suman officiating, Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
Visiting hours are noon-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home.
