Lester L. Strickler, 60, a life-long resident of the Willshire, Ohio area, died at 6:15
p.m. Thursday at home after a short illness.
He was born on September 3, 1934 in Willshire to Floyd and Nellie Stetler Strickland
and married Sandra J. Hoblet on October 24, 1953. She survives.
He was a laboratory technician at Decatur's Central Soya plant for 27 years. He
also was a licensed auctioneer for 27 years in Indiana and Ohio and operated Strickler
Auction Service, assisted by his two sons. He was also a real estate salesman for
Northwestern Ohio land and Auction Co. Mr. Strickler was a member of St. Paul's United
Church of Christ in Rockford, Ohio, a charter and 30 year member of the Willshire Lions
Club, and a member of the Willshire Sportsmen's Club, Decatur Moose Lodge 1311, Van
Wert County Farm Bureau, Van Wert County Hospital Board (since 1980), Old Fashioned
Farmers Association, Willshire's Chapter of the Sons of the American Legion (charter
member) and the Ohio Township Trustee Association.
A graduate of Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, he was recently honored by
the Willshire Lions Club for outstanding service to it and the community for three
decades.
Other survivors are two sons, Daryl (Dede) Strickler, Wren, Ohio, and Doug Strickler,
Ohio City, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Dawn) Meussling, Fort Wayne; five sisters, Irene
Hoverman, Adeline Lough, Mrs. Dean (Hazel) McMillen, all of Willshire; Mrs. John (Lois)
Funk, Decatur, and Mrs. Carroll (Rosella) Sovine, New Haven; seven grandchildren, and many
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Paul's United Church of Christ,
Rockford, with burial in the church cemetery. Visiting hours are 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday in
Zwick-Sefton and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the donor's choice.
