Heart Attack Fatal to John W. Lough
Dies This Morning While Hunting Coon
John William Lough, 43, of 332 North Eight Street, died unexpectedly of a heart attack
about 2:45 o'clock this morning while on a coon hunting trip.
Lough, accompanied by Arthur Hurst, Jr., had left on the hunting trip about 8:30
o'clock Friday night and it is believed that over-exertion led to the fatal seizure.
The two hunters were about two and one-half miles west of Connie's Market when Lough
suffered the fatal seizure. Hurst attempted to aid the stricken man but was unable to
carry him. He summoned sheriff Robert Shraluka and an ambulance, but Lough was dead when
aid arrived.
The victim was born in Geneva, May 30, 1909, a son of Frank and Cora White Lough.
Surviving are his mother; his wife, the former Mary Burkhead; four children, Mrs.
Phyllis Hutker of Decatur, John, Donald and Sandra Kay Lough, all at home; two
grandchildren; seven brothers, Kenneth, Everett and Jim Lough all of Decatur, Gene of
Willshire, Ohio, Frank of Sturgis, Mich., Donald of Fort Wayne and Fred of St. Paul,
Minn.; and five sisters, Mrs. Gretchen Foreman, Mrs. Ruth DeBolt and Mrs. Idora Andrews,
all of Decatur, Mrs. Dorothy Krontz of Sturgis, Mich., and Mrs. Alvena Currier of
Kalamazoo, Mich. One daughter is deceased.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Black Funeral Home and
at 2 o'clock at the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church, the Rev. John E.
Chambers officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends may call at the
funeral home after 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
