LAURA M. RUMPLE
Laura M. Rumple, 87, Berne, died suddenly at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Caylor-Nickel Medical
Center, Bluffton, of a stroke related to a heart ailment.
She was a retired teacher who taught at schools in Jay County, the Parkway district in
Ohio, Berne, and South Adams Community Schools. She was a graduate of Ohio State
University.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, Antoine
Rivarre Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revoluntion, and Adams County Extension
Board. She was a 4-H leader and worked for the South Adams athletic department as a
ticket taker. She was a former member of the old Maple Grove Church.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1907 in Crooked Tree, Ohio to William H. and Everella Slater
Darrah and married Henry I. Rumple on June 16, 1930. He died in January of 1968.
Surviving are 2 sons, John R. Rumple, Columbus, Indiana and William H. Rumple, rural
Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. WIlliam (Susan A.) Winstandley, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs.
William (Patsy J.) Worrell, Durham, North Carolina; and Mrs. Stephen (Helen L.) Bako,
Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Fonnie I. Werner, Barnsville, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne,
with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Geneva. Visiting hours are from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and
8-10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Preferred memorials are to the Adams County 4-H Club and/or the
Monroe Rescue Squad.
