DEATH CLAIMS RACHEL KNAVEL - Mrs. John Knavel Dies Sunday Night At County
Hospital
Mrs. Rachel C. Knavel, 82, wife of John Knavel, died at the Adams county
memorial hospital Sunday night at 8:45 o'clock. Death was caused by
complications after a month's illness.
The deceased was born in Jay county April 1, 1858, the daughter of Jacob
and Barbara Hahn.
Surviving besides the husband are five children, Mrs. Viola Martz and
Frank Brandyberry, both of Decatur; Mrs. Mary Smith of St. Louis, Mich.,
Harvey Knavel of Sturgis, Mich., and Max Knavel of Decatur; one brother, Abe
Hahn of Decatur; 23 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Three children and 11 brothers and sisters are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at the Gillig & Doan funeral home Wednesday
afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Paul Brandyberry officiating. Burial will be
in the Ray cemetery, west of Monroe.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening
until time of the funeral.

John Knavel Dies Tuesday Afternoon - Funeral Services Will Be Thursday
John A. Knavel, 79, retired laborer, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at a
Richmond hospital after a six months illness of arterio sclerosis.
He was born in Adams county Aug. 2, 1868, a son of Henry and Sarah Jane
Knavel, and was a lifelong resident of the county. His wife, Rachel, died
in 1945.
Surviving are two sons, Harvey of Sturgis, Mich., and Max Knavel of
Decatur; a half-brother, Howard Laughen of Sturgis, Mich.; four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One son is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gillig & Doan
funeral home, the Rev. G. A. Eddy officiating. Burial will be in the Ray
cemetery west of Monroe. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7
o'clock this evening.

HARVEY KNAVEL
The funeral service for Harvey Knavel, 75, is to be held at 1:30 p.m.
Monday in the Foglesong Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Matthews, pastor
of the Assembly of God Church officiating. The benediction and committal
ritual will be said at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mr. Knavel, whose home was at 502 Williams St., died at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday in the American Legion Hospital, Battle Creek after suffering
apoplexy Nov. 5. He had been a resident of Sturgis for nearly 50 years.
Mr. Knavel was born at Baldwin, Ohio, Jan 16, 1892, a son of John and
Rachael (Hahn) Knavel. He was married to Hazel M. Rouderush. She died
Jan. 12, 1961.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Sturgis and was
affiliated with the Father's Club of the Capt. John J. Kelley Post VFW. He
had been employed with the Sturgis Foundry until he retired in 1958.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Knavel of near Burr Oak and Chauncey
Knavel, of Sturgis; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home.

Max M. Knavel, 80, died at 4:45 Thursday in Veterans Hospital,
Indianapolis, after an extended illness. Mr. Knavel resided at 422 S. First
St. in Decatur before entering the hospital.
A member of American Legion Post 43 in Decatur and a veteran of World War
I, Mr. Knavel was a former Decatur city employee, retiring after 25 years.
Born November 3, 1895 in Monroe, he was the son of John and Rachel
Hahn-Knavel, and was married on January 8, 1936 to Lillian Hodle, who passed
away August 24, 1975.
Survivors include three sons, Richard of La Harpe, Kansas, Jerry W. of
Berne and Jay D. of Decatur; two daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Betty) Abbott of
route 1, Berne, and Mrs. Lester (Mary Jane) Fellers of Geneva; 15
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Winteregg-Linn &
Haggard Funeral Home, Rev. Richard G. Kirk in charge, and burial will be in
the Decatur Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m.
Saturday. Military graveside rites will be held by American Legion Post 43.
