Deceased Name: Clyde E. Drake
Clyde E. Drake 89, of Decatur, a former member of the Decatur City Council, passed away on
Friday, January 9, at the nursing center in Woodcrest Retirement Community.
He was born in Adams County, Indiana, on January 19, 1919, to Theodore and Blanche (Smith)
Drake.
Clyde was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 43 and was a lifetime
member of Moose Lodge 1311 and Elks Lodge 993, all of Decatur.
He served on the Decatur City Council for 18 years and also served his country in the
United States Army during World War II.
Clyde retired in 1980 after 40 years of service with Central Soya as a supervisor of the
Field Department.
On August 26 1939, Clyde married Merle Shelton, who survives. He is also survived by two
daughters, Mrs. Carolyn (Ron) Bittner of Marion, Iowa, and Mrs.
Joanna (Joseph) Stanley of Decatur; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Drake, and one great-grandson, Charles Alton
Bittner.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 13, from 1-2 p.m. at Porter Auditorium in Woodcrest
and 4-8 p.m. at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.
An Elks Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. and a Moose Memorial Service
will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 14, at 11 a.m. in Haggard and Sefton
Funeral Home, with Pastor Daniel Gadbaw officiating.
Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion Post 43
color guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church's Broadcast for Shut-ins.
