EDITH V. BEER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Mrs. Edith V. Beer, 57, wife of Elmer C. Beer of Berne route 1, prominent in Adams
county political circles for many years, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday at the Parkview
memorial hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Beer had been ill for the past nine months and hospitalized for two and one-half
weeks.
She had served for several years as vice chairman of the Adams county Democrat central
committee and was employed at the Decatur license bureau for six years until retiring
because of ill health.
Born in Berne November 4, 1911, she was a daughter of Ferd and Rosella Beitler-Mettler,
and was married to Elmer C. Beer November 18, 1933.
Mrs. Beer was a member of the Cross United Church of Christ, Berne, the Berne
Mother's Club, served as secretary of Adams county CROP for many years, and was also
active in the Mental Health association.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Max R. Beer of Berne route 1; one
daughter, Mrs. Bill (Sally) Reynolds of Berne route 1; a foster son, Robert Reinhard of
Nile, Ill.; her father, Ferd Mettler of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Betty)
Sprunger of Berne, and Mrs. Neil (Agnes) Wright of Kendallville; and two grandchildren.
A sister, Catherine, is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cross United Church of Christ in
Berne, with Rev. Robert L. Hegnauer officiating. Burial will be in MRE Cemetery. Friends
may call at the Yager funeral home in Berne after 2 p.m. Saturday.
