ALFRED HELLER, 64, DIES AT HOSPITAL
C. Alfred Heller, 64, of Monroe route 1, retired civil service employe, died at 8:25
a.m. Saturday at the Adams county memorial hospital, after an illness of only a few
hours.
Born in Lancaster township, Wells county, July 24, 1907, he was a son of Roy E. and
Mary Melching-Heller and was married to Juanita Blackburn March 17, 1933.
He graduated from Kirkland high school in 1926, and joined the U.S. Navy in 1927,
serving for eight years. He was a civil service employe at the Naval Air Base at Alameda,
Calif., from 1940 until retiring in 1964. He had lived in the Decatur and Monroe area
since retirement.
Mr. Heller was a member of the Scottish Rite at New Bern, N.C., Masonic Lodge
Eucalyptus 243, Hayward, Calif., and the national association of retired civil service
employes.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Charles A. (Jack) Heller of Carson City, Nev.; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. Heller of Decatur, route 4; one brother, Theodore S. Heller
of Decatur route 2; and six grandchildren.
Funeral rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Zwick funeral home, with Rev. J.
Oliver Dearing officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Dale cemetery. Friends may
call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today until time of the services. Masonic services
will be held at 9 p.m. today.
