WOW, Well done, Margie!!
Great information is going to be disseminated in the Adams County rootsweb site.
As you know, I have been researching the HARKLESS family from Adams Co., IN for 25 years.
I know that William Harkless who died in 1855 is buried in Root Twp., Adams Co., IN
because his will is there and he died there. I even know that he was living with his
daughter, Rosanne Harkless (husband William) Hunter when he died. They lived directly
across the street from ALPHA Cemetery, Root Twp., Adams County, IN, but in the several
times that I have been there, no Harkless stone at Alpha. I also thought that William
Harkless might be buried in MONMOUTH Cemetery, where his son & wife, James Harkless
who md Nancy PILLARS, are buried. But, I have never been able to locate his gravestone
there or anywhere else, despite many trips to Adams Co. William Harkless left a great
will, it appeared that there would be funds provided for his burial; but, perhaps not. If
anyone has any thoughts about this, please let me know.
I have decided to have a memorial stone made for him with his name, birth date & birth
place & death & marriage place & date & wife's first name & maiden
name, his fathers name (with Revolutionary War on it), and his mothers maiden name,
brothers & sisters names (with maiden & married names); his children's names
(and "Civil War" for one of his sons), along with their spouses names &
maiden names placed on the stone. I think that I am going to have the memorial stone for
William Harkless placed beside the stone of his son, James & Nancy Pillars Harkless,
in Monmouth Cemetery; hopefully sometime this year.
Would you like to have a photo of the stone for the website? Would anyone in our Adams
County, IN group be interested in coming to a dedication ceremony?
Thanks for all that you have done and continue to do, Margie.
God bless you & your wonderful husband,

I checked the St Peters church cemetery book in Root township and there is no Harkless
buried there.
